'We don’t have a server' - INEC replies Atiku

'We don’t have a server' - INEC replies Atiku
 www.naijavoiceofthemasses.blogspot.com
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it does not have the server where  the PDP claim results of the presidential election were uploaded.

The electoral commission is reacting to the request of Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who had asked the tribunal to compel INEC to allow them inspect smart card readers and the server.

The opposition party and its candidate are challenging the declaration of President Buhari as winner of the presidential election that held in February. At the tribunal on Thursday, Yunus Usman, counsel to INEC, said the party was asking something they did not have.

“They are asking us to bring something we do not have,” the lawyer said. Usman asked the tribunal to strike out the application. Also, counsels of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Buhari asked the tribunal to strike out the application of the PDP.

They argued that they could not prove the existence of a server. The electoral commission said Buhari polled 15,191,847 votes to defeat the former vice-president who secured 11, 262,978. But Atiku in his application claimed that he polled 18,356,732 votes while Buhari secured 16,741,430, citing INEC’s server.

AIT, RayPower shutdown: NGE blows hot, demands immediate revocation of suspension order

NEWS
AIT, RayPower shutdown: NGE blows hot, demands immediate revocation of suspension order
 www.naijavoiceofthemasses.blogspot.com

The Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) has demanded an immediate revocation of the suspension order of the licenses of DAAR Communication Plc, owners of AIT, RayPower and Faaji FM.

According to the Guild, the suspension order runs contrary to the ideals of free speech and the fine tenets of press freedom.

In a statement signed by its President, Mrs. Funke Egbemode, and General Secretary, Mrs. Mary Atolagbe, the Guild described the action of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) as a case of executive highhandedness.

The guild added that the suspension of the broadcast licenses of DAAR communication paints Nigeria in the darkest tar of dictatorship.

The statement reads: “The Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) hereby condemns in very strong terms the indefinite suspension of the licenses of the African Independent Television, AIT, Ray Power by the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC).

“The Guild demands in clear terms the revocation of the suspension order as it runs contrary to the ideals of free speech and the fine tenets of press freedom. This is a case of Executive highhandedness and it paints our dear country in the darkest tar of dictatorship.
“The Fourth Estate of the Realm remains the watchdog of society and any attempt to gag it in any guise is an affront on democracy and the people. The NBC must and should rescind this ignoble and despicable decision.

“The Guild strongly believes the NBC action is a draconian form of regulation, being out of tune with democratic principles. The Guild is concerned about the violation of the constitutional rights of DAAR Communications and the absence of media freedom, independence and the stifling of operations of media outfits which are performing their roles as the watchdog of the Nigerian society.

“The NGE condemns in strong terms the barbaric crackdown on the broadcast outfit and demands the immediate cessation of this atrocious repression and excessive show of power by the NBC, whose duty is to regulate and not kill the media.

“Muzzling the media and throwing thousands of Nigerians into the already saturated labor market should not be the trophy for good corporate governance of a regulator; it is something to be ashamed of and NBC should be ashamed at its action in a fledgling democracy in the 21st Century.

“The Guild is strongly of the opinion that the NBC, in exercising its regulatory powers, should concentrate on implementing policies that will position Nigeria’s broadcasting to compete in the global spheres, rather than engage in witch-hunting and unnecessary show of excessive force. The Guild hereby expresses its solidarity with the AIT/Raypower family, urging the staff and management to remain calm as the Guild liaises with and other media professionals as well as well meaning Nigerians to get justice.

“The NGE appeals to President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, to use his good offices to call NBC to order.

“It is to be recalled that NBC had, before the 2019 general election, shut down Joy FM in Jos for violations of the broadcasting code. Last year, the NBC shut down Ekiti Radio/TV station. Shutting down stations and withdrawing licences are too extreme in the circumstance. There must be humane and saner ways to resolve disputes bordering on violation of the Broadcasting Code.”

Benue guber: Tribunal fixes May 28 for pre-trial of Benue governorship petitions
The Governorship, National and State Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal in Benue State has fixed May 28 to commence pre-trial on the only governorship petition before it.

Tribunal secretary, Deborah Musa, who disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on Friday in Makurdi, said that all court processes had been completed and that the pre-trial was set to begin.

Mr Emmanuel Jime of the All Progressive Congress (APC), is challenging the re-election of Gov Samuel Ortom of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), in the March 2, 2019 polls.

In the petition filed by Mr Sunday Ameh (SAN), Jime is asking the tribunal to upturn Ortom’s victory and declare him winner having scored the highest number of lawful votes cast.

Mr Michael Gusa, Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of Benue, has, however, said that the governor was sure of victory at the tribunal.

“We are very hopeful of victory. The governor’s team of lawyers has raised a preliminary objection asking the court to dismiss the petition for lack of merit,” Gusa had told NAN while filing Ortom’s defense.

Ortom had polled 434,473 votes to defeat Jime, who garnered 345,155 votes

2019: Sowore Of Sahara Reporters For President - Yushau Shuaib

BREAKING NEWS
2019: Sowore Of Sahara Reporters For President - Yushau Shuaib

I received a strange call one night from a foreign telephone number requesting a confirmation over distributions of relief materials at a residence of a top politician. The caller said he had pictures to buttress the incident.
As the spokesperson of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), I confirmed the story but insisted that the beneficiaries of the relief items were internally displaced persons (IDPs) and poor Nigerians at a residence of a community leader.
Since the story could be wrongly interpreted over the genuine humanitarian efforts, I appealed to the caller to consider the plight of the beneficiaries rather than the person whose facility was used for the distribution. He magnanimously dropped the story.
The caller was the Publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore who now wants to throw his hat into the ring of presidency come 2019.
During my dilemma with Dr, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, before I was forced out of the public service in 2013, Sowore was out in full force in my defence through regular coverage of my plights and strong editorials in SaharaReporters. When I crossed over to the other side as the Media Consultant to Nigeria’s security apparatuses, we balanced our relationship, and in fact, Sowore has been one of the great pillars of support in managing security reports.
It was during my engagement with the security system that I discovered that Sowore has credible informants from virtually every sensitive unit of government. The system as at that time tolerated some of his excesses and never threatened his businesses. Most influential media personalities including reporters were closely monitored for their safety and protection. Meanwhile, on few occasions, the system interfered ‘intelligently’ with his platforms to prove its technical capability. In fact, his media outfit and few others were used as guinea-pigs to test-run latest acquired intelligence facilities against stubborn online and social media. Surprisingly, Sowore would never make noise about those secret interferences, even though I personally intervened when his platforms, in few instances were compromised.
The system was aware that Sowore has large volumes of sensitive and sometimes classified information on virtually every who-is-who in security and political circles. He has been very considerate in managing the information in his disposal especially on privacy and national security.
While he doesn’t spare top political and security top shots for wrongdoings, he is always careful in not attacking the institutions and innocent operators within the structures.
I could mention several instances where Sowore had protected the reputation of Nigeria’s security from public ridicule and embarrassment. His occasional private warnings and technical advice on issues towards safeguarding national security were heeded while his medium too deliberately self-censored information leakages that could be injurious to Nigeria’s territorial integrity.
The renowned Defence Spokesperson, General Chris Olukolade (Rtd), could testify to some of the amazing supports from Sahara Reporters that he once told me “This Sowore of Sahara Reporters is an interesting enigma in every sense.”
Because I was involved, he has turned down invitations and snubbed the receptions from many top public functionaries because of his radical disposition. He neither visited public offices nor sought help from public officers at least as at May 2015. Surprisingly, he never made noise about the calibre of personalities that he rejected their hands of fellowship. He is also choosy and reluctant to accept legitimate business patronages and advert placements from politicians, public officers and suspicious businessmen.
My relationship with him was never rosy. We have the occasional cat-and-mouse game since I am neither an activist nor a full-term journalist that could damn the consequence of contentious media reports. I am a public relations person that believe some information are not publishable for stability, especially on privacy and national security. PR as a profession, unlike citizen journalism, has ethical standards and regulations. Our mutual friends, especially Musikilu Mojeed of Premium Times, do intervene occasionally when we (this writer and Sowore) engaged in hot exchanges of words privately on burning issues.
I am aware that he has damning dossiers on many top public officers, he has been conscious of releasing information that could compromise national security. In fact, till date, some system officials seek his intervention on self-censorship and other strategic support.
In my interaction with Sowore, one could see his sincerity and passion for a better Nigeria where there will be economic stability, political progress and social harmony where the rich and the powerful cannot intimidate and harass the poor and the weak. He means what he says even though he is too radical and naughty in his views.
Sahara Reporters online media does not attack the poor and the weak. The medium merely exposes the powerful and the rich for their dirty antics and deals. It uses its influence to hold public officers accountable through investigative reports and editorial contents. His true friends remain the like minds in activism, the oppressed masses and the voiceless.
On a personal note, I am highly indebted to Sowore of Sahara Reporters for being part of the few individuals who stood by us when it really mattered and ensured he gave us a platform free of charge for PR stuffs. I will definitely donate to his campaign funding since he never accepted a kobo for the services he has so far rendered to us.
Meanwhile, I won’t know if I can vote for a very blunt and an extremely radical activist as Nigeria’s President at this very critical time even though Sowore has demonstrated fine PR skills in his exchange of words with Communication Minister, Barrister Adebayo Shittu recently.

2019 Election: God Is Preparing A Messiah From North - Tunde Bakare

BREAKING NEWS
2019 Election: God Is Preparing A Messiah From North - Tunde Bakare
Pastor Tunde Bakare has declared that God is preparing a messiah from the North who will possess the capacity to deliver Nigeria from its challenges.
The former running mate to President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2011 general elections said this during a sermon which was aired live on Channels Television yesterday.
“Let no one deceive you, there’s nobody with the capacity to deliver Nigeria until that day; that day is coming, it’s very near,” he said while addressing the congregation at his Latter Rain Assembly Church in Lagos.
“The reason things are going haywire in Nigeria today is because God is preparing the tender plant from the side of the North,” he said.
Pastor Bakare told his congregation that although he had been speaking about his presidential ambition in parables, they should watch out for direct statements ahead of the 2019 elections.
He maintained that he was not politicking about his ambition to become president but declaring what God has told him about his purpose in life.
“The reason we refused to compromise our lives and to diminish our values is so that nobody can diminish our influence. There’s only one assignment left for me. It’s not down, it’s up.
“I am declaring thus saith the Lord to this end was I born, for this purpose came I into the world that Nigeria will be saved, Nigeria will be changed, and Nigeria will become great in my lifetime. The mouth of the Lord has spoken it and the zeal of the Lord shall accomplish it,” Bakare added.

Osun PDP Conducts LG Congress Against Court Order

BREAKING NEWS
Osun PDP Conducts LG Congress Against Court Order
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State on Saturday conducted a congresses in all the 30 Local Government Areas across the state, following a State High Court judgement that ruled in favour of the Soji Adagunodo’s faction of the party to go ahead with congress to elect party executives.
Senator Iyiola Omisore ‘s faction of the party had earlier instituted a case against a proposed congress of the party in the state, citing irregularities and failure to comply with certain democratic principles and norms.
The head of the national delegation of the party, which was in the state to monitor the exercise, Mr Ndidi Okereke, in an interview with journalists in Osogbo, the Osun State capital said the party remained one without any faction whatsoever.
Okereke averred that the national secretariat of the party recognises and also working with a cohesive and united party in the state, adding that the era of division in the party has gone for ever.
He said the exercise was peaceful and the turnout encouraging with strong hope of staging a come back in the forthcoming gubernatorial election in the state.
“Your can see for yourself that the exercise is peaceful with massive support, our party is confident and sure of victory come September 22 this year.
“It is obvious that the people of the state are waiting for us, likewise many other Nigerians, as far as we are concerned, there is no faction in the party in Osun, the party remains one family, “Okereke said.
In the same vein, a leading stalwart of the part in the state, Senator Olu Alabi said the party was practically ready to wrestle power from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the September 22 governorship election.
Alabi noted that Adagunodo remained the Chairman of the party, saying he has the necessary capacity to lead the party to victory anytime.
” Osun people are waiting for PDP. As the first gubernatorial candidate of PDP in the state, I have been in party politics for some times, I have not seen any government as horrible as this one. They are not starting any form of employment, they are not creating any employment, they are even trying to drive the little business away through exhaustive taxation.
Also, the leader of the party in Osogbo Local Government, Prince Sakariyah Kolapo reiterated the resolve of the party to go to poll in one voice and as a united force, noting that the issue of faction in the party is nothing but a mere farce.
Meanwhile, a leading member of the Omisore’s group, Dr Bayo Faforiji in a telephone interview with journalists said the exercise was “one-sided, alleging that delegation from the National Secretariat of the party was partial in its dealings.
He accused the national delegates of the party of sidelining his group in the scheme of things, for relating only with the Adagunodo’s group.

Falana Reacts To Shehu's Disclosure Of Senators Take Home, Calls For Stoppage Of Unwarranted Salaries

BREAKING NEWS
Falana Reacts To Shehu's Disclosure Of Senators Take Home, Calls For Stoppage Of Unwarranted Salaries
Human rights activist, Femi Falana (SAN) has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to stop the flamboyant salaries and allowances of Nigerian Senators and public office holders.
He said information by Sen Sani called for a review of money allocated to senators.
The statement read “according to the Senator (Shehu Sani), the running cost of each Senator is N13.1 million in addition to a consolidated salary of N750,000 per month. Apart from the monthly package of N13.8 million, each Senator is given the opportunity to execute constituency projects to the tune of N200 million per annum.
“However, the disclosure made by Senator Sani does not cover the allowances for cars, housing, wardrobe, furniture etc running to several millions of Naira approved for each Senator.
“The revelations by Senator Sani should therefore provide an opportunity for the Nigerian people to review the entire costs of governance under the rickety democratic dispensation.
“The Buhari administration owes the nation a duty to ensure that no political officer is paid salaries and allowances that have not been approved by the Revenue Mobilization. Allocation Fiscal Commission.
“The members of the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission empowered by section section 70 of the Constitution to approve the salaries and allowances of the legislators have always washed off their hands like Pontius Pilate while the Budget Office has never questioned the payment of unauthorised salaries and allowances to federal legislators.”
The activist lawyer recalled that last year, the legislators also illegally purchased exotic cars of N4.7 billion for themselves at a time when workers were owed arrears of salaries and the masses were groaning under recession.
“While we commend Senator Shehu Sani for exposing the secrecy which had enveloped the salaries and allowances of federal legislators in Nigeria before now, it is crystal clear that the statement credited to Professor Itse Sagay, the chairman of the Presidential Advisory Council not too long ago to the effect that Nigerian legislators are the highest paid in the world cannot be faulted.
“However, the federal legislators cannot be blamed alone for paying themselves skyrocketing salaries and allowances outside the ambit of the wages approved for all political office holders in the country,” he added.

Ukandu Reacts To The Rumour Of Senator Orji's Interference In Ikpeazu's Governance
A former local government Chairman in Abia State and a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Suleiman Ukandu on Wednesday stated that former Governor Theodore Orji is not interfering in the governance of the State.
Ukandu, who is a close associate of the former Governor, made this known at a press conference in Umuahia on Wednesday.
He said Senator Orji’s main focus had always been on making laws that would impacts on the lives of his constituents, describing the alleged interference of the senator in Abia affairs as mere speculation from unscrupulous elements.
He said, “all these are rumour. I don’t live on rumours. It is very clear today to all Abians and discerning minds that T.A Orji is a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He doesn’t stay in Abia state.
“So, anybody making such an insinuation, to me is doing so out of mischief or to give a dog a bad name.
“Senator Orji is not interfering in the affairs of the present government in the state. He is not a commissioner. He is not in Abia state. His interest is minding what is happening in the National Assembly. You can see him coming up with motions in the senate that have translated to bills. That is his interest.
“I don’t see his interest in the governance of Abia state or how it is being managed. He has quietly done his own for eight years. And his achievements are there to see despite all propaganda against him.
“Orji has made his marks, no matter what anybody says. Also, despite all propaganda, his achievements are there to speak for him.”
