Trump Tower Fire Left One Dead, US President Speaks

BREAKING NEWS
Trump Tower Fire Left One Dead, US President Speaks
One person was killed and four firefighters were injured on Saturday evening when fire broke out at Trump Tower in New York.
First responders reportedly performed Cardiopulmonary resuscitation on one person, and he was rushed to St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital, where he later died.
The four firefighters also suffered smoke inhalation in the blaze, but were expected to recover.
The Fire Department of New York (FDNY) tweeted that the fire at Trump Tower had been upgraded to a Category 4 alarm fire from a Category 3 fire alarm.
FDNY Commissioner Daniel Nigro tweeted at about 8 p.m.: “We found fire on the 50th floor of the building. The apartment was entirely on fire.
“Members pushed in heroically, they were knocking down the fire and found one occupant of the apartment who is in critical condition.
“This was a very difficult fire. As you can imagine, the apartment is quite large, we are 50 stories up.
“The rest of the building had a considerable amount of smoke. 200 Firefighters and EMS – emergency medical services – members are on scene.
“We had many floors to search, and stairways, and right now the only civilian injury is to the occupant of that apartment. There are four Firefighters with non-life-threatening injuries.
“The fire is still not considered to be under control because of the smoke conditions on all the floors above.”
President Donald Trump, his wife Melania and son Barron were not in the New York apartment this weekend, where he maintains a three-story penthouse residence.
Trump tweeted at 6:42 p.m. that the fire was under control, as he boasted about the building’s construction.
“Fire at Trump Tower is out. Very confined (well built building). Firemen (and women) did a great job. THANK YOU!” Trump wrote.

Donald Trump Laments The Waste Of $7trn In Middle East As He Pulls Out Of Syria

BREAKING NEWS
Donald Trump Laments The Waste Of $7trn In Middle East As He Pulls Out Of Syria

US President Donald Trump insisted Thursday that US forces would pull out of Syria “very soon” and lamented what he said was Washington’s waste of $7 trillion in Middle East wars.
In a populist address to industrial workers in Ohio, Trump said US forces were close to securing all of the territory that the Islamic State jihadist group once claimed.
“We’ll be coming out of Syria, like, very soon. Let the other people take care of it now,” Times of Israel quoted him as saying.
Trump did not say who the others were who might take care of Syria, but Russia and Iran have sizable forces in the country to support President Bashar al-Assad’s regime.
“Very soon — very soon we’re coming out. We’re going to have 100 percent of the caliphate, as they call it — sometimes referred to as ‘land’ — taking it all back quickly, quickly,” he said.
“But we’re going to be coming out of there real soon. Going to get back to our country, where we belong, where we want to be.”
The United States has more than 2,000 military personnel in eastern Syria, working with local militia groups to defeat the Islamic State group while trying to keep out of Syria’s broader civil war.
Trump’s eagerness to quit the conflict flies in the face of a new US Syria strategy announced in January by then secretary of state Rex Tillerson — who has since been sacked.
Tillerson argued that US forces must remain engaged in Syria to prevent IS and Al-Qaeda from returning and to deny Iran a chance “to further strengthen its position in Syria.”
Later in a speech at Stanford University, he also warned that “a total withdrawal of American personnel at this time would restore Assad and continue his brutal treatment against his own people.”
“We spent $7 trillion in the Middle East. And you know what we have for it? Nothing,” Trump declared, promising to focus future US spending on building jobs and infrastructure at home.

Dapchi Schoolgirls: US Speaks On The Release Of The Girls By Boko Haram

BREAKING NEWS
Dapchi Schoolgirls: US Speaks On The Release Of The Girls By Boko Haram
‎ The United States Government has reacted to the releaseof the Dapchi schoolgirls abducted by Boko Haram.
The world power noted that there still remained enormous challenges in Nigeria which would require the attention of the United Nations and other international players.
This is part of remarks by the American Deputy Secretary of State, John Sullivan, during the International Advisory Council’s closing luncheon held at the United States Institute of Peace in Washington.
His words: “It’s a whole-of-government effort. It sounds trite to say, but it’s certainly true. We work closely with our colleagues at the Department of Defence, USAID, and the State Department. I was in Abuja, Nigeria a few months ago, and the challenges are enormous.
“The threat from Boko Haram and ISIS West Africa, particularly in north-western Nigeria, is very serious, as we’ve seen just in the last few weeks with the kidnapping of another 110 schoolgirls, most of who have been released, but only on the condition that they are not  allowed to go back to school, which is astounding on its face. But we’re thankful that at least most of those young girls have been released. But we’ve got to address the security situation.
“But there are deeper problems – economic and social – that require not just U.S. Government’s assistance but assistance from a wide array of private organisations, other countries, and the United Nations. So that’s what we’re looking to mobilise to address the causes of the refugee flows out of that area and prevent these crises from developing,” the American diplomat stated.
Sullivan added that the problems of illegal migration and terrorism facing Nigeria and few other African countries would require more efforts and global cooperation to solve.
He disclosed that the US would work more closely with the G5 countries and national governments to tackle the issues.
“Looking at what we do in the U.S. Government, I’d focus, for example, on Africa, particularly in countries like Nigeria, the countries in the Sahel and Northern Africa, the tragic scenes that we have seen of refugees and migrants leaving Libya, Tunisia, Algeria for southern Europe.
“And those people are coming from countries farther south in Africa, where there is conflict, poverty, et cetera. So we’ve got to have – from the U.S. Government’s perspective, it requires an integrated strategy with our colleagues at the Department of Defence to partner host governments.
“For example, the countries in the Sahel, the so-called G5 – working with them to address the terrorism problems that are presented in the region, to establish a baseline of security so that humanitarian assistance, development assistance can flow into the region, and remove the causes of people who are fleeing those countries, risking their lives to cross the Mediterranean to get to hope for a better future in Europe.”

Another Storm To Hit Tri-State Area, The Fourth In 18 Days - Weather Men Warns

A fourth winter storm system could hit the Tri-State early next week, sending the east coast into Spring on Tuesday, literally under the weather

A fourth winter storm system could hit the Tri-State early next week, sending the east coast into Spring on Tuesday, literally under the weather.

Weather forecasters from NBC's Team 4 in New York are predicting the fourth Nor'easter in about 18 days to begin dumping precipitation on the areas hardest hit by last week's snowfall late on Monday night and continuing well into Tuesday.

The weather team has warned that the timing predicted for this expected inclement weather may change, but it's not clear whether a shift would move the storm up, extend it past Tuesday, which marks the first day of Spring.

The Tri-State area consists generally of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, but other states along the east coast will also be in the path of this potential storm.

Forecasters are saying it's too early to tell exactly how much precipitation may result from this fourth storm system.

The weather may lead to rain, snow, or both, and is likely not to be the last winter weather east coasters experience this season.

This potential travel nightmare comes on the heels of three weather systems that have devastated areas, and left at least three people dead.

The third and most recent snowfall landed mostly in Long Island and Connecticut over March 12.

Southampton recorded more than 18 inches of snowfall, while Newtown saw 11 inches.

The nor'easter that hit the east coast  on March 7 resulted in as many as 3,000 canceled flights on and up to two feet of snow in parts of New Jersey.

Both there and in the Hudson Valley, hundreds of thousands of people were left without power.

The first storm in this potential quartet also reaked havoc on travelers.

On and around March 2, thousands of flights and scheduled trains were canceled, including on Amtrak, which shut down its routes on the Northeast Corridor.

That storm left the most snowfall in New Jersey and the Hudson Valley. Sussex County racked up at least 13 inches of snow and parts of Orange County recorded more than 9 inches.

Flooding also hit Massachusetts hard, requiring assistance from the US National Guard.

During the first storm, an 11-year-old boy died in the Hudson Valley after being hit by a falling tree.

Again in the Hudson Valley, an 88-year-old women lost her life in the same way, outside of her home.

Also during the storms, a driver in New Jersey was killed by electrocution after driving onto a live wire.

Forecasters have said this active weather pattern is likely to persist through the end of March, so people should expect the possibility of even more serious weather conditions to finish out the season.

For this weekend, New York City marathon runners and St. Patrick's Day revelers can expect slightly warmer and sunnier conditions.

Oprah Winfred Explain Why She Didn't Had Children, Saying She Would Be A Terrible Mother
Oprah Winfrey explains why she never wanted children:
64-year-old billionaire media mogul Oprah Winfrey says she never had children because she doesn’t have motherly instincts. She said she believes she would have been a terrible mother because she can’t communicate with anyone who cannot speak. Lol.
Oprah opened up about her decision not to have children during a sit down with Gwyneth Paltrow‘s first episode of “The Goop” podcast.
Oprah told Paltrow she could never have raised two babies like Paltrow has done because raising babies would have been too frustrating.
“I don’t think I would have been a good mother for baby children, because I need you to talk to me, and I need you to tell me what’s wrong,” she said. “I can’t just figure it out. I knew this about myself.”
I was always better with kids once they turned two-and-a-half, three, I had a real resonance with them. Gayle (King) was like, ‘Don’t you love babies?’ I was like, ‘Oh, babies are fine.’ It didn’t feel like [having babies] was for me.”

Gunman Kills Himself, Hostages (3 Women) After A Long Standoff With Police

CRIME NEWS
Gunman Kills Himself, Hostages (3 Women) After A Long Standoff With Police

A gunman and three women thought to be his hostages were found dead Friday at a California veterans home after an hours-long standoff with police.
The assailant struck at 10:20 am (1820 GMT) at the Veterans Home of California-Yountville in the Napa Valley, the largest veterans’ home in the United States with around 1,000 former servicemen and women.
“Shortly before 6:00 pm this evening law enforcement personnel made entry into the room where we felt the hostages were being held by the suspect and unfortunately made the discovery of three deceased females and one deceased male suspect,” Captain Chris Childs of the California Highway Patrol told a news conference.
“This is a tragic piece of news, one we were really hoping we wouldn’t have to come before the public to give.”
The Napa County Sheriff’s Office had earlier issued an advisory on social media telling people to avoid the area following reports of gunfire, as the California Highway Patrol dispatched officers, air support and a SWAT team to the site.
Childs said a sheriff’s deputy who was first on the scene exchanged fire with the suspect, adding that “we credit him with saving the lives of others in the area by eliminating the ability for the suspect to go out and find further victims.”
The three victims were described by local media as employees of The Pathway Home, an on-site counseling service for veterans who suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
It is was not immediately clear whether they had been targeted or were chosen at random.
The San Francisco Chronicle said the gunman — apparently a 36-year-old war veteran wearing “a stash of bullets” around his neck and waist — had been on the PTSD treatment program, adding that his weapon was a rifle.
– Gunman was calm –
It quoted state senator Bill Dodd identifying the program’s executive director, Christine Loeber, as being one of the dead, although the victims’ names have not been officially released.
Police did not say how they died, although local media, citing unnamed sources, reported that the assailant shot the three women before turning the gun on himself.
Dodd, whose district includes the center, said the gunman had been asked to leave several days earlier, according to the Chronicle.
“It’s a residential program so guys live in the building, staff work in the building,” Larry Kamer, whose wife Devereaux Smith was working at the center, told the local ABC7 News channel.
Smith, a development director for The Pathway Home, was one of four women released by the gunman, said Kamer.
“There was a going away party for a couple of the staff who were leaving today. They were having cake and toasting and all that and then he apparently just walked in with this rifle.”
Kamer said the gunman was calm and talked to everyone present.
The discovery came after several fruitless hours of trying to contact the man by the sheriff’s department, City of Napa Police and the FBI.
California Department of Veterans Affairs secretary Vito Imbasciani said in a statement the agency was “devastated” by the deaths.
“Our hearts are heavy for the entire Yountville Veterans Home community and the families and friends who are grieving for those who died,” he added.
“Nothing matters more than caring for our veterans and employees during this difficult time. We appreciate the tremendous law enforcement response today and unfailing support of this community.”

Trump Reacts To White House Lock-Down Rumour

US President Donald Trump on Tuesday said the White House was not in chaos.
He stated this while reacting to a wave of resignations and FBI investigators circling his top aides.
Trump decried reports of “Chaos in the White House” as a “Fake News narrative” in series of tweets.
“Wrong! People will always come & go,” he said after his closest aide Hope Hicks and his staff secretary Rob Porter stepped down amid interwoven scandals.
Trump’s first year in office has been a frenzy of departures and infighting, which insiders put down to clashing interests, inexperience and the president’s unique management style.
“I want strong dialogue before making a final decision,” Trump said, defending his method of promoting staff argument.
Trump further hinted that things were not perfect.
“I still have some people that I want to change (always seeking perfection). There is no Chaos, only great Energy!” he said.

Killer Nanny Faces Trail, Looks Away From The Gruesome Scene Photos

BREAKING NEWS

Killer Nanny Faces Trail, Looks Away From The Gruesome Scene Photos

A nanny charged with the stabbing murder of two young children in her care has looked away as gruesome photos of the crime scene were presented in court.

The trial of New York City nanny Yoselyn Ortega, 55, continued on Tuesday, when jurors were shown horrific photos of the Upper West Side apartment where Leo Krim, two and Lucia Krim, six, were slain in October 2012.

Ortega has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity, and stared straight ahead throughout the presentation without looking at the photos, as reported by New York Post.

The photos showed blood smearing the walls, floor and toilet of the bathroom where the bodies of Leo and Lucia were found with their eyes open. The bottom of the tub was almost entirely red.

One bloody knife sat in the sink, inches away from a pink child's toothbrush.

Another sat wrapped in a towel atop a toy refrigerator in the hallway.

According New York Post, at least two jurors wiped away tears as they beheld the horror images, as others gasped and held their faces. By the afternoon, one juror told the judge that he could no longer be fair and impartial and was excused from the case.

Minihan told the court that he avoided look in the direction of the bathroom where the mutilated bodies of Lulu and Leo were lying.

The photos were taken roughly seven hours after mother Marina Krim found the children mortally wounded and saw Ortega stabbing herself in the neck.

Leo was stabbed five times, and Lucia, who fought back, was stabbed 30 times, according to prosecutors.

Also on Tuesday, several more first responders were called to testify.

'That's the worst crime scene I've ever seen, other than September 11,' said paramedic Eugene Nicholas.

'I saw blood everywhere,' said Kevin Orr, a second paramedic.

'Mrs. Krim was stunned and hysterical, saying, how am I going to get this out of my head?' said paramedic Reuben Shelton.

Another EMT said that Marina Krim, who was with her three-year-old daughter Nessie when she discovered the gruesome scene, pleaded with paramedics to shield her from photographers as they left the building.

Building superintendent Michael Minihan (pictured) also testified this week
Building superintendent Michael Minihan (pictured) also testified this week
Nessie was spared from seeing the horror scene and didn't seem to understand what had happened, the court heard.

Earlier in the week, building superintendent Michael Minihan offered a chilling account when Ortega's eyes bulging out as she gasped for air and bled from a self-inflicted knife wound in her neck.

Minihan lived directly below the Krim family, whose kids Ortega nannied, and remembered rushing to apartment in October 2012 after hearing mom Marina Krim's blood-curdling cries.

Krim was on the mezzanine 'holding her middle child, Nessie, screaming incoherently,' Minihan said.

Marina Krim (right) leaving court clutching her husband Kevin Krim's (left) hand. Marina erupted at Ortega on Friday after six hours of heart-wrenching testimony, She screamed at the former nanny: 'You're evil!' and yelled: 'Get me out of here!'

When Minihan entered the apartment, he said he first saw Ortega, 'staring...the eyes of the devil in my face,' he said. 'Her eyes were bulging.'

Ortega had stabbed herself in the neck in an attempted suicide after killing the two young children.

Minihan told the court that he avoided looking in the direction of the bathroom where the mutilated bodies of Lulu and Leo were lying.

'I could see the tub and I could see a body or something. I tried as best as I could not to take my eyes off Ms Ortega but I could see there was a mess,' he said, fighting back tears. 'I just saw red, I just saw red.'

Prosecutors say Ortega grabbed two kitchen knives and butchered the two children while their mother was blocks away at the dance studio where Lulu was supposed to be.

They added that Ortega waited until Marina Krim found the children dead in the bathroom before plunging a knife into her own neck so that she could relish in the devastated woman's pain and horror

Prosecutors suggested that Ortega was jealous of Krim because she was financially stable and had a good relationship with her children.

Allegedly, Ortega felt she deserved to work less and be paid more, but they have said there isn't a clear motive for the crime.

Ortega said she was angry that the Krims had asked her to clean the house in addition to looking after the children.

The nanny's attorney, Valerie Van Leer-Greenberg, said Ortega heard voices and saw hallucinations in unchecked disorders.

But New York has a high bar for the insanity defense, and it is rarely successful. To win, Ortega's lawyers will have to prove she didn't understand the consequences of her actions and didn't know right from wrong at the time.

On Friday, in court, Marina Krim stormed out of the courtroom, screaming at Ortega following a harrowing six hours of testifying over two days in

'You're evil and you love this! You like this!' she screamed, wailing: 'Get me out of here. Please, get me out of here. Get me out!' as she was escorted out of the courtroom by court officers for a short break.

The judge told jurors to disregard the outburst.

Jurors on Friday watched on surveillance footage as mom Krim stood in the lobby of a dance studio discovering her six-year-old daughter, Lulu, was not at class.

Ortega was supposed to pick up Lulu from kindergarten and walk her to dance class then go home to put Leo down for nap. Krim would go to swimming with her other daughter, three-year-old Nessie, then and head home to meet Leo and Ortega.

Krim showed up to the studio shortly before 5pm, and panicked when Lulu wasn't there.

As she bends over her phone in the footage, Nessie plays in a bright pink coat in the lobby before Krim grabs her hand and walks out.

She frantically texted Ortega: 'Where's Lulu ... Donde Estas ... Where are you' but Oretga never answered.

In less than an hour, Krim would find Lulu and Leo, dead in the bathroom of her apartment.

Krim testified that Ortega had just been kicked out of her Bronx apartment at the time of the murders according to the report.

'I would say she was distracted. She was more arrogant...She had that smug look to her, like she has right now. It's disgusting,' she recalled, leading up to her children's brutal murders.

Ortega's defense attorney asked Krim if she ever considered firing Ortega.

'There was nothing to fire her about at that point,' Krim testified. 'I was aware of her strange behaviors but nothing to fire her over.'

Jurors also saw a booklet of photos Marina Krim made for Ortega after a trip they all took to see Ortega's family in the Dominican Republic.

The three children are beaming. In one photo, Ortega holds them, smiling.

Jurors also heard a doorman place a 911 call, and Krim's anguished screams in the background.
