Nigeria vs France: How Nigerians reacted to Super Falcons defeat
Different reactions
from Nigerians have trailed Super Falcons of Nigeria 1-0 defeat to France in
their final Group A fixture at the ongoing FIFA Women’s World Cup on Monday.
We reported
that Nigeria, on Monday night, was
defeated 1-0 by the host nation at the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France.
The Super Falcons
came into the game, needing at least a point to give themselves a good chance
of qualifying for the Round of 16.
However, having
held on for most of the game, the African champions conceded a penalty in the
75th minute.
Wendie Renard
missed her first kick, but referee Melissa Paola Borjas Pastrana ordered for it
to be retaken, while showing a yellow card to Chiamaka Nnadozie for not keeping
a foot on the line.
Renard made no
mistakes the second time, as the hosts finished top of the group with nine
points.
However, reacting
on social media, some Nigerians lamented about racism against Super Falcons
during their match with France.

Super Falcons’ coach blows hots after 1-0 loss to France, blasts
officials
Head coach of the
Super Falcons, Thomas Dennerby, was an angry man, following their 1-0 defeat to
France, in their final Group A fixture on Monday night.
Nigeria, who needed
at least a point from the match to stand a good chance of progressing to the
Round of 16, held on for 75 minutes before a controversial penalty was awarded
to the hosts.
Les Bleus skipper,
Wendie Renard, stepped up and missed her first kick.
But the referee
ordered a replay, claiming that goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie stepped off her
line.
Renard redeemed
herself with the second opportunity, as France ran out 1-0 winners and topped
the group.
But decisions were
given after Video Assistant Referee (VAR) checks.
Addressing the
media after the match, Dennerby fumed that their opponents were obviously the
better side, but needed no help from officials.
“My [Nigeria]
players are the heroes.
“I am disappointed
with the result. France is a really good team and does not need support from
anybody to win games.
“I feel so sorry
because the girls were fighting so well and followed the match plan but it’s
getting destroyed by people.

Nigeria vs France: Asisat Oshoala identifies three world-class players,
what Super Falcons must do
Nigeria striker,
Asisat Oshoala, has identified France stars, Le Sommer, Gauvin and Renard as
world class players ahead of both sides’ tie in their final Group A fixture at
the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup on Monday night.
The Barcelona star
also revealed that the Super Falcons must be technically better and stay
concentrated if they want to beat the Les Bleus at the Stade de la Route de
Lorient Stadium.
Nigeria head to the
game after defeating South Korea 2-0 last Wednesday, while France defeated
Norway 2-1.
”They have a very
good team, world class players like Le Sommer, Gauvin, Renard, same as my team
as well,” Oshoala told FIFA’s official website.
”We have good
players that play in top leagues in Europe as well, top players that play in
the Champions League.
”I feel it’s still
the same, no much difference. We just have to be technically better against
them and stay concentrated in the game.”
Nigeria vs Korea Republic: Oshoala speaks on 2-0 win
Nigeria striker,
Asisat Oshoala has admitted that the first goal in their 2-0 win over Korea on
Wednesday gave them more confidence.
Oshoala failed to
find the back of the net last Saturday as the Super Falcons were hammered 3-0
by Norway in their opening game of the 2019 Women’s World Cup.
However, the
24-year-old added the second in Grenoble as
the African champions claimed maximum points.
“We had more
confidence when we got the first goal.
“And we tried to
tell ourselves that we needed to give more because one goal was not enough and
then, I got the second goal.
“At first, I think
we were a little bit scared of losing and going out. But after a while, we just
decided to go for it.
“I always say that
I’m never under pressure – I just go on the pitch and do my job. It’s an
11-player game and I just look to enjoy the game, have fun and do the right
thing for my team.
“The group is wide
open now. We just have to concentrate now on making sure we get the points we
need against France,” Oshoala told reporters afterwards.
Nigeria are third
in the Group A with three points from two games and will hope to claim their
spot in the next round when they face Les Bleus.

Cup
Head coach of
France’s national women team, Corinne Diacre, has predicted that the Super
Falcons of Nigeria will give her side a hard time when both sides clash in
their final Group A fixture on Monday night at the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The Les Bleues will
tackle the Thomas Dennerby’s side at the Stade de la Route de Lorient Stadium
in France.
The hosts head to
the match after defeating Norway 2-1 on Wednesday, while Nigeria defeated South
Korea 2-0.
”As far as Nigeria
team is concerned, I’m just looking at one match after another so I haven’t
thought yet about anything concrete on Nigeria,” Diacre was quoted by
Allnigeriasoccer as saying ahead of France’s clash against Nigeria.
”I am going to
relax, think about it tomorrow, then we will reflect on things – what we can
do, who may stay on the bench because we did have some injuries and let them
recover.
”We are going to
have to think about this long and hard.
”Norway gave us a
hard time, Nigeria will probably do the same. For the time being, now we are
just going to stay put and fight hard to win that match against Nigeria.”
