The social media is agog with arguments after Georgia/Ohio's heartbeat bill and
Alabama's anti-abortion bill
There has been
massive outrage after the Georgia Governor Brian Kemp on Tuesday signed into
law a “heartbeat” bill, banning abortion as early as six weeks into
pregnancy. There has also been massive support from some quarters too.
Georgia isn't the
only state implementing the "heartbeat" bill. Ohio has also
implemented the heartbeat bill and the Alabama governor signed into law
a near-total abortion ban that could punish doctors who
perform abortions with life in prison.
Alabama Gov.
Kay Ivey on Wednesday signed the controversial abortion bill,
saying, "Today, I signed into law the Alabama Human Life
Protection Act, a bill that was approved by overwhelming majorities in
both chambers of the Legislature. To the bill's many supporters, this
legislation stands as a powerful testament to Alabamians' deeply held belief
that every life is precious and that every life is a sacred gift from
God."
While some people,
especially people who identify as prolife, are in support of the anti-abortion
laws, others have slammed it as restricting women's rights to their
reproductive health.
Those arguing in
support of the bill say life begins from conception and should be
preserved.
But those against
have said that a woman should be able to abort her child rather than bring the
child to the world only to abuse and kill the child. They gave examples using
the increasing number of kids on the streets and in foster care. They also
mentioned kids killed by their parents. They went on to point out that the same
law makers forcing parents to have kids they don't want will not donate a kobo
to take care of those kids when they are born.
Others arguing
against the bill mentioned that if it is detected that a child in the womb has
a congenital disease or a disability, the parents should be allowed to abort
the child rather than bring them to the world to suffer. They also pointed out
that a woman who has an ectopic pregnancy should be allowed to abort her child
rather than die during pregnancy.
The most prominent
argument against the bill is that women who are victims of rape and incest
shouldn't be forced to bring the kids into the world because those parents will
most likely hate the kids and the kids could be scared for life, knowing their
history.
Others said the
lawmakers making these rules do not actually care for women, children, or
religion but simply want a means to control women and their sexuality.
The argument has
been heated on Twitter and a great number of celebrities have lent their
voice to the argument, including Rihanna,
Dua Lipa, and more.
