Gov. Darius Ishaku of Taraba, on Monday night, imposed curfew on Jalingo following fresh outbreak of crisis in some communities in Kona and ATC areas, near Jalingo.
This was contained in a statement by Mr Bala Dan Abu, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media and Publicity.

According to the Governor, the curfew will run from 4:00 pm to 6:00 am daily till further notice.

The statement read: “In view of the fresh outbreak of crisis in some communities in Kona and ATC near Jalingo, the Taraba government has decided to impose a curfew on Jalingo and all the affected communities with immediate effect.



“The curfew is from 4:00 pm to 6:00 am daily and it remains in force until further notice.
“Security agencies in the state had been directed to enforce the curfew strictly to ensure strict compliance and quick return of peace to the affected communities.”

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that there was mass movement of women and children from the affected communities to different parts of Jalingo, the state capital, following sporadic gunshots and burning of houses.

NAN recalls that violent clashes which happened in April 2019 resumed on Sunday but was curbed by security agencies only to resurface on Monday evening creating panic among residents.

A Criminal Informant Nabbed By Nigerian Troops In Taraba
Troops of 93 Battalion, on Sunday arrested a suspected criminal informant while he was trying to identify someone to be eliminated.
He was said to be identifying the victim in a vehicle along road Takum – Chanchangi in Taraba State when he was arrested.
A statement from Texas Chukwu, Brigadier General, Director Army Public Relations, said the suspect was heard by a commuter talking to one Mallam Musa Ibrahim to identify the person to be eliminated.
“The information was secretly revealed to troops; they thereby trailed the vehicle and arrested the informant.
“During the interrogation of the suspect, he confessed to be an informant to criminals in the general area to perpetrate criminal activities.
“The suspect is presently in the Army custody undergoing interrogation,” he said.

‎The former Minister for Defence, General Theophilus Danjuma has called on Nigerians to defend themselves before they all die.
The politician said Nigerians should defend themselves against ethnic cleansing.
He gave this warning on Saturday at the maiden convocation ceremony of Taraba state University in Jalingo, Taraba state capital.
Danjuma said the unnecessary killings which is a target to ethnic cleansing on the people of Taraba and Nigeria at large must stop.
He called on the people to “rise and defend themselves against the killers. ”
He added, “You must rise to protect yourselves from these people, if you depend on the Arm Forces to protect you, you will all die.
“This ethnic cleansing must stop in Taraba, and it must stop in Nigeria. These killers have been protected by the military, they cover them and you must be watchful to guide and protect yourselves because you have no other place to go.
“The ethnic cleansing must stop now otherwise Somalia will be a child play.
“I ask all of you to be on your alert and defend your country, defend your state.”

Taraba Crisis: Ishaku Declares Indefinite Curfew In Taraba
Curfew has been declared in parts of Taraba State where fresh violence broke out between Mambilla militia and Fulani youths.
The state government declared the curfew in Mayo Ndaga in Sardauna Local Government Area of the state.
It was gathered that during the a security meeting, a riot act was read with a warning that security personnel sent to all parts of Mambilla were combat ready and would restore peace and order and troublemakers would be dealt with.
In Jalingo, the Taraba State capital, Governor Darius Ishaku also chaired a security meeting with police commissioner, Mr. David Akinremi, Director of state security service and the heads of all security agencies in the state.
The senior special Assistant on media affairs to Governor Darius, Mr Bala Dan Abu, confirmed the meeting held but there was no statement issued on the meeting.
The Police Public Relation Officer Taraba State command, ASP David MiSal, did not answer calls made to his phone by our reporter but replied a text message saying “there is calm in the area now.”
Crisis erupted in the area last Wednesday following attacks on Fulani communities in Yarimaru area by suspected militia which later spread to other parts of the Mambilla plateau.
The curfew was slammed on the area as more towns and villages came under attacks in the troubled Sardauna Local Government Area.
The attacks are said to have spread to parts of Mayo Ndaga, Yarimaru,Kakara and Sherif up to towns on the Nigeria Cameroun border.
The chairman of the local government, Mr. Godwin Sol, said as at Yesterday, 29 corpses were recovered while search for many missing persons continued.
