NDLEA Nabs Two Over Possession Of Illicit Drug In Anambra

‎The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has arrested two persons for being in possession of hard drugs in Awka.

Solomon Michael and Okechukwu Udenkwo both from Abia and Anambra State respectively were arrested in Nando, Anambra West LGA and Onitsha during a raid for being in possession of cannabis sativa.

Addressing the press on the matter, the State Commander of the NDLEA, Mr Sule Momodu said the suspects were arrested when his men raided Onitsha and Nando respectively.

He claimed that one of the suspects, Solomon is a major distributor of Cannabis Sativa in Onitsha, and accused Okechukwu Udenkwo of being involved in the business of distributing cocaine in Nando.

The NDLEA commander who said that the suspect will be charged to court disclosed that with the arrest of the suspects who have been terrorizing their areas, sanity and peace will be restored in those areas.

Mr Momodu, however, solicited the cooperation of the various community leaders to enable them win the war against illicit drug in the state and assured informants that their identities will not be disclosed.

He further called for collective efforts in sustaining the excellent security recorded in the state while commending Governor Willie Obiano for his efforts in securing the state.

In their reactions, Solomon Michael admitted to the crime and pleaded for pardon while Okechukwu Udenkwo denied committing the crime.

Anambra Teacher Who Married His Sister Calls Off The Marriage Following Community Threat

The mathematics teacher, Chiadikobi Ezeibekwe, who recently wedded his 17-year-old blood sister in Osuofia, Ekwulobia area of Aguata LGA of Anambra State, said he has been prevailed upon to call off the ‘unholy’ marriage.

Before now, he had told reporters that he was of the Sabbath sect, and that he received direct instructions from God to ‘marry’ his sister. 

The 17-year-old girl is a student of the Federal Government Technical College, Awka.

He justified his action by quoting from the book of Deuteronomy to illustrate that siblings could marry each other saying that, “One advantage of this is that such marriage discourages divorce. It also retains family values and norms.

“I don’t feel guilty; I don’t feel ashamed; I don’t feel intimidated in any way. Only God can stop us. They said they would do cleansing to stop us, but I will only listen to the voice of God,” he had said.

But Chiadikobi has now changed his position, according to Punch, citing pressure from his community.

He said, “We have decided to dissolve that marriage because of pressure from our community. So, that marriage is no longer an issue. It’s now in the past.

“I learnt that they have arranged a Reverend Father to do what they called cleansing. They have contacted us, and we have assured them that we shall make ourselves available for the exercise.

“I will be there and the entire family will be there. But that is not to say that I will join their church. I won’t do that and our family won’t. We can’t go back to Egypt.

“I’m a Sabbath and, searching through the scriptures, I discovered that one could marry his sibling. So, we went ahead with the arrangement to marry my younger sister.

“The marriage ceremony was observed inside our family compound, which also serves as a place of worship for us. My immediate elder brother, Paul Ezeibekwe, the pastor, was present during the ceremony.”

He said, “What happened was that when we decided to get married, we told our parents about our intention and my father asked us if we knew what we were about to do. I told him that we searched through the scriptures and that God sanctioned it. It was after this that our parents consented.

“However, other relatives objected to the idea when they learnt of the plan and when we ignored them and went ahead with the marriage, they and other villagers burnt the church where the wedding took place.”

He insisted that God told him to marry his sister.

He added, “God told me to marry my sister who also received the same vision. There are quotes in the Bible that support such marriage. Those in doubt should read Songs of Solomon chapters 4 and 5 and 1st Corinthians chapter 7.

“However, since we took that decision, the whole community rose against us; and threatened thunder and brimstone.

“We are not barbarians; we are not lawless people. So, we have decided to obey the community, and we have decided to end that marriage. It has been dissolved and that’s the end of it.”

Anambra Child Trafficking Syndicate Busted By NAPTIP

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons on Wednesday said it arrested 11 persons over suspected child trafficking, abduction and sale of children in Anambra State.

Mr Josiah Emerole, the NAPTIP Head of Press and Public Relations, said this in a statement in Abuja.

Emerole stated that the suspects were nabbed in different parts of Anambra in a combined operation carried out with the support of operatives of Directorate of the State Services.

He noted that the suspects, comprising eight women and three men, were said to belong to  a criminal syndicate which specialised in kidnapping and sale of babies across the country.

The spokesperson disclosed that three children whose ages range from eight months to four years old were recovered during the operation, while scores of other children believed to be trafficked by the gang were yet to be found.

According to him, among the children is a two-year-old girl reportedly stolen from Lagos sometime ago and another four-year-old boy allegedly stolen from his parents in Gudaba in FCT.

He added that the boy’s parents were yet to be traced to collect the child.

“The parents of the eight months old child are yet to be traced, while the two years old child whose four year old brother is yet to be recovered has been identified by her parents.

“The baby was stolen from Okpoko in Anambra and recovered in Lagos.”

He said one of the arrested suspects, Rosemary Okafor, 30, allegedly sold one of her four children, a newborn baby, to one woman simply identified as Madam Pink at the cost of N350,000.
