3-day-old baby stolen from Plateau hospital found, reunites with parents
 www.naijavoiceofthemasses.blogspot.com
The Management of Plateau Specialist Hospital, Jos, on Monday, handed a baby (Gift Chukwuebuka), which was stolen ten days ago to her parents.

We reported that the baby, which was delivered on May 28, 2019, was stolen barely three days after she was delivered (May 31, 2019), by a woman who claimed to be a medical personal in the aforementioned hospital.

Presenting the child to the parents; the Chief Medical Director of the Hospital, Dr Philemon Golwa, said, “Today is not a day of mourning, but a day of celebration; celebration of a life that was thought to have been lost, but now has been found.

Golwa said when the management was informed about missing of the child, “we were worried and we went to the police and had a meeting with them and they did their work and recovered the baby.”

www.naijavoiceofthemasses.blogspot.com

The CMD said he was under pressure from different quotas to speak about the incident, but was very careful not to contradict himself; “But we thank God that today we have to celebrate.”
“Any baby that comes with circumstances like this, such baby turns out to be great in the society and that is why we need to tell the world what has happened.

According to the CMD, the police invited him and other staff on duty when the incident happened to the station, “some were even put behind the counter, we had to do all that we could do to bring them out.

“As God will have it, last Thursday, we had a big breakthrough, the baby was found and the person that did the technical work of snatching the baby from here to another hospital also had to confess, she admitted to her fault and we have left that one to the police.

“Why the police have not been able to say anything now is that they are working to demystify the mystery behind how the baby was taken from the ward finding to another hospital, so, I think they are still doing their work and I cannot stop them.

The CMD further explained that the incident occurred during the visiting hours of the Hospital (between 4-6pm).

Golwa assured that the management has taken more stringent security measures to ensure that such a thing never happens again.

He added that people coming to the Hospital must adhere to some procedures that may sound strange to them.

The CMD also said the Medical bills of the baby would be settled by the Hospital and they would be doing a follow-up, even if they are discharged.

Responding, parents of the baby, Mr. and Mrs. Chukwuebuka, thanked everyone for ensuring that their baby was found and returned to them safely, especially the media and security operatives.

Man accused of killing 51 worshipers at two New Zealand mosques in March pleads?
The man accused of shooting worshippers at two New Zealand mosques in March has pleaded not guilty to 92 charges, including 51 counts of murder.

Australian citizen Brenton Tarrant, 28, appeared via audiovisual link at the Christchurch High Court on Friday morning over the attack, which was New Zealand's worst mass shooting in modern history.

Tarrant entered a not guilty plea to 51 charges of murder and 40 charges of attempted murder and one charge under the Terrorism Suppression Act, the first time such a charge has been laid inside the country. The pleas were entered by Tarrant's lawyer, Shane Tait.

Tarrant could be seen smiling as he appeared via video link from Paremoremo Prison in Auckland. Tarrant was silent throughout his appearance and could be seen on a monitor from the waist up, dressed in a plain gray sweatshirt. A proposed trial date was set for May 4, 2020.

Mental health assessments have been completed, with Judge Cameron Mander telling the court no issues had arisen in terms of Tarrant's mental fitness to enter pleas or stand trial. Under New Zealand law, murder carries a life sentence, and convicted murderers must spend at least 10 years in prison before they are eligible for parole. Committing a terrorist act carries a possible life sentence.

Tarrant last appeared in court in April, when the court ordered he undergo a mental health assessment. He was arrested on March 15, within 21 minutes of the first emergency calls being received by police. Almost all of the victims died at Al Noor mosque and Linwood Islamic Center in Christchurch in New Zealand's South Island. Only two died later in hospital, including a Turkish citizen who died in May.

They used their guns to hit him, beat him up, fractured his hand and accused him of being a Yahoo boy. According to Valentine, the SARS officers said he must be a Yahoo Yahoo boy for wearing dreadlocks.

A visibly angry Valentine wrote

The police in Ebonyi state have arrested one Samuel Chidi, who resides at Diamond Point Junction, Chinedu Ogah Avenue Abakaliki,  for allegedly watching his wife, Nkechi, bleed to death in their home after refusing to take her to the hospital to give birth to their 3rd baby.

According to resident of the compound where the couple stayed, Chidi had previously watched his wife deliver twice through Caesarean section. With this 3rd pregnancy, he decided that she must not go through the pain of Caeseran section again and so he contracted a patent medicine dealer who came to their home to deliver his wife of their baby. The patent doctor administered improper injections on her, dragged out the baby to the ground while the husband pinned her legs down, collected the blood, the baby's placenta and hid in his room while leaving the agonizing mother to bleed to death.

Chidi then openned up to her that she had died and that her corpse was in his room. The Nurse raised alarm and immediately asked that the remains of the deceased be taken to the mortuary while the baby be rushed to the hospital for proper medical attention.

The family of the deceased was contacted soon after and dismayed by the negligent conduct of the man who had sworn to love, cherish and protect their daughter till death do them part, withdrew the body and proceeded to dump it in the man's compound for him to do with it as he had presumably purposed.

The timely intervention of the police saved Chidi from being lynched by his angry neighbors. He is currently cooling off his heels in the police station.

30 year Nasiru Musa, pictured above, has been arrested by men of the Niger state police command for allegedly strangling his seven months old daughter on May 20th.

According to reports, Musa had taken the baby from the mother while she was sleeping to an uncompleted building where he strangled her. His evil deed was discovered when the mother of the baby woke up and could not find her child by her side. She raised an alarm and the matter was reported to the Nasko police division.

After much investigation, the police arrested Musa who confessed to killing his own child. According to him, he was hypnotized into killing her because he doesn't understand why he would kill his flesh and blood.

“I gave birth to my daughter out of wedlock and the mother and I are preparing for our wedding before this happened. I cannot explain why I took her life. People will not believe me. It is like somebody hypnotised me. I find it very difficult to explain. How am I going to explain to my fiancé what transpired? I know that is the end of (preparations for) the marriage. She will never forgive me and my friends will desert me.” he said.

He denied allegations of planning to use his baby for rituals.

“God forbid. Magama people don’t use their children for rituals and that is why I cannot explain how I killed my own daughter.”

The police say he will be charged to court soon.

Update: Remains found in trash bag during search for Maleah Davis after her stepdad confessed to
Authorities in Houston believe the remains of a child found in southwest Arkansas on Friday may belong to 4-year-old Maleah Davis who went missing one month ago.

"Do we believe that it's possibly her? Yes. But can we confirm it right now? No," Houston Police Executive Assistant Chief Troy Finner told reporters. "If it's not Maleah, it's somebody's child," he said.

The discovery comes after her stepfather, Derion Vence, 26, confessed to accidentally killing her and dumping her where they found the remains of a child.

Earlier on Friday, suspect Derion Vence confessed to Quanell X, a community activist who was representing the victim's mother, Brittany Bowens. He said he killed Maleah before dumping her body in Arkansas.
"One thing he wanted to make clear to me was (that) what happened to Maleah was an accident, he says it was an accident. And he confessed to me where he dumped the body," Houston community activist Quanell X told CNN affiliate KTRK.

"He said he pulled over in Arkansas, got out of the car, walked to the side of the road, and dumped the body off the road," said Quanell, who used to represent the girl's mother.

After Houston police detectives along with a search and rescue team headed to Arkansas to began searching near Hope, a town about 30 miles northeast of the Texas-Arkansas border. They spotted a garbage bag emitting a foul odor along Interstate 30 near Hope. The remains of a child were inside the bag, Hempstead County Sheriff James Singleton told CNN affiliate KTAL.

"It might be Maleah but we can't be certain," Houston Police Cmdr. Michael Skillern told reporters.

The remains have been flown to Texas where it will undergo forensic testing to determine the identity.

Vence, 26, has been charged with tampering with evidence in connection with the case. He was engaged to Brittany Bowens, Maleah's mother, and was taking care of Maleah and his son when she went missing on May 4. Vence is currently in custody.

Man whose wife disappeared during their?honeymooned has been?sentenced to 8 years in prison for involuntary manslaughter
A man whose wife disappeared while they honeymooned at sea has been sentenced by a federal judge to eight years in prison for involuntary manslaughter.

Lewis Bennett, 42, apologized to the family of Isabella Hellman during a Tuesday hearing before U.S. District Judge Federico Moreno in Miami. He waived his right to appeal.

Defense attorneys sought a 7-year sentence, a year lower than the maximum number spelled out in a plea agreement reached last November. Bennett was originally charged with murder, with investigators alleging he intentionally tried to sink the boat, but later dropped the charges.  "It's not because I expect that he will commit this crime again," Judge Moreno said. "Sentencing is for punishment."

Before Moreno announced his decision, Bennett, a dual citizen of Australia and the United Kingdom, asked the judge that he let him get out of prison sooner so he could continue to raise the couple's daughter, who was an infant when the mother vanished. Emelia Bennett turns 3 in July and is being raised by his parents in Scotland.

"If you may permit me to be with my daughter as soon as possible," Bennett said. "I want to bring her up in a manner that is respectful to my wife's wishes." But Moreno sided with prosecutors and chose eight years in prison as the sentence and three years on supervised release.

Hellman disappeared as the couple sailed off the Bahamas in May 2017. A statement from the U.S. Attorney's office says Bennett had experience sailing, including training on emergency procedures and had previously traveled from St. Marteen to Australia. His wife, a naturalized U.S. citizen born in Cuba, had not trained in emergency sailing procedures and had less experience, prosecutors said.

The couple had been married for three months when they set sail to St. Marteen, Puerto Rico and Cuba for a delayed honeymoon in late April. After they left Cuba on May 14, Bennett asked Hellman take over control of the boat for the night so he could go rest in the boat's cabin, according to court documents. He didn't require her to wear a life jacket, harness or personal locator, prosecutors said in the statement.

He said he woke up when the craft hit something, and Hellman was missing. Assistant U.S. attorney Kurt Lunkenheimer said on Tuesday that Bennett "did not search for her diligently enough despite him being an experienced sailor."
