Europa League final: Petit makes shocking prediction on Chelsea, Arsenal clash

Europa League final: Petit makes shocking prediction on Chelsea, Arsenal clash
Europa League final: Petit makes shocking prediction on Chelsea, Arsenal clash
Arsenal legend, Emmanuel Petit, has backed Maurizio Sarri’s Chelsea to beat Unai Emery’s men when both sides clash in Wednesday’s Europa League final in Baku.

Chelsea reached the Europa League final after defeating Frankfurt in semi-final encounter, while Arsenal dumped Napoli out of the competition.

But Petit believes Chelsea are ‘in a good place’ to win the Europa League ahead of Arsenal.

“I’ve been critical of Sarri in the past, particularly about some tactical decisions that I didn’t understand. But you have to give him the time to do what he wants to do with the team,” Petit told Paddy Power.

“If they win the Europa League, they’ll have a European trophy, which alongside their earlier Champions League qualification, translates to a good year for Chelsea.

“With all that in mind, there’s a lot to be happy about for the club. If you compare this season to the previous, he has probably achieved what the club asked him to do.

“Most of the time when watching Chelsea, I get bored very easily, but the important thing is to win games and win trophies, and they’re in a good place to do that.”

Europa League final: Arsenal kick against choice of Baku for Chelsea clash

Europa League final: Arsenal kick against choice of Baku for Chelsea clash
Arsenal have described UEFA’s decision to host the Europa League final in Baku, Azerbaijani capital, as “unacceptable”.

Fans are struggling with the logistics and cost of attending the game on May 29.

Arsenal and Chelsea were given 6,000 tickets each by European football’s governing body for the match at the 68,700-capacity Olympic Stadium, more than 4,500 kilometres (2,800 miles) from the English capital.

UEFA cited Baku’s limited airport capacity as one reason for not reserving more tickets for travelling fans.

“We are bitterly disappointed by the fact that due to transport limitations UEFA can only make a maximum of 6,000 tickets available to Arsenal for a stadium with a capacity of well over 60,000.

“Time will tell if it is even possible for 6,000 Arsenal fans to attend the match, given how extreme the travel challenges are.

“On behalf of our fans, we would like to understand the criteria by which venues are selected for finals, and also how supporter requirements are taken into account as part of this,” added Arsenal’s statement.

“Moving forward, we would urge UEFA to ensure that supporter logistics and requirements are a key part of any future decisions for final venues as what has happened this season is unacceptable, and cannot be repeated.

“We would be happy to join any future discussions to avoid this situation happening again,” Arsenal said in a strongly worded statement.

EPL: Luis Enrique May Take Over From Wenger As Arsenal Boss

SPORTS NEWS
EPL: Luis Enrique May Take Over From Wenger As Arsenal Boss
Arsenal negotiator, Raul Sanllehi has held, advanced discussions with former Barcelona manager, Luis Enrique over the last few days.
L’Equipe reports that the Spaniard is interested in replacing 68-year-old manager because he appreciates the club’s philosophy and respects the values of the club.
If talks with Enrique fails to progress any further, the Gunners will approach their three alternative targets – Carlo Ancelotti, Patrick Vieira and Leonardo Jardim, the newspaper reports.
Reports in Spain earlier this week claimed that Enrique will look to bring veteran midfielder, Andres Iniesta with him to the Emirates if he is appointed Arsenal manager.
Wenger had earlier admitted that the timing of his decision to step down as Arsenal manager was forced upon him.
He said, “The timing was not really my decision. I do my job, keep my routine and focus on what I have to do every day. I prepare well for the game. I think it will be surreal for me when I don’t work. At the moment I work like ever.
“You’re never sure you do the right thing, but life is interesting because you have to deal with different kinds of situations. Until now, I had a life that was full of different experiences.
“Some were very difficult to deal with, but I always did it. That’s another one certainly I will face one day.”

EPL: Martial Most Likely To Move To Arsenal
Arsenal have emerged as favourite to lure Anthony Martial from Manchester United, according to reports in his native France.
Le 10 Sport claims the 22-year-old is keen to leave Old Trafford and wishes to stay in the Premier League to prove a point to Jose Mourinho.
Martial would be available for around £60million should United chiefs allow him to leave, after his playing time reduced since the arrival of Alexis Sanchez in January.
The Frenchman is also believed to be keeping an eye on other Premier League options and sees Gunners rivals Spurs and Chelsea as potential destinations.
Martial’s current deal expires in the summer of 2019, but the club retain the option of a one-year extension.

EPL: Arsene Wenger Reacts To Petr Cech Clean Sheet Record

Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, has hailed the club goalkeeper, Petr Cech for becoming the first English Premier League (EPL) shot stopper to reach a remarkable 200th clean sheet in the 3-0 win against Watford on Sunday.
Cech saved a second-half Troy Deeney penalty, his first since joining Arsenal in 2015 to secure a landmark 200th EPL clean sheet.
Goals from Shkodran Mustafi, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan wrapped up a fairly comfortable win over the Hornets.
Wenger piled up praise for his goalkeeper and his “remarkable” achievement.
“The record is absolutely remarkable,” Wenger told Sky Sports.
“It shows fantastic motivation and a fantastic desire to always be the best. It also shows remarkable intelligence because without remarkable intelligence you don’t last in the game, because you have to deal with so many different problems.
“Congratulations to him,” he said.

Europa League: AC Milan Hosts Arsenal - Match Details, Club Lineups And Injuries
Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal will on Thursday night battle AC Milan in the Europa League round of 16 first leg clash at the San Siro stadium in Italy.
Wenger’s men, who have lost five of their last six matches, including the Carabao Cup final defeat to Manchester City and the Premier League 2-1 lost to Brighton on Sunday, will hope to bounce back to winning ways as they look forward to clash with the Italian giants.
Wenger’s January recruit, Aubameyang will not face his former side, Milan and with Lacazette sidelined with a knee issue, the Gunners need their midfielders to decide the flow of the game.
Nacho Monreal is also sidelined with a hamstring, while Mkhitaryan is eligible to play for Arsenal despite featuring for Manchester United in the UEFA Champions League.
However, Milan who have impressed since the appointment of Gennaro Gattuso as manager, are unbeaten in their previous 13 games and have recorded six consecutive wins in all competitions.
Gattuso has a fully fit squad of first-team players and most likely will feature a strong lineup against Arsenal.
Andre Silva and Cutrone are the stand out players for Milan. Silva has scored six goals in the Europa league, one short of the top scorer and will look to add to his impressive 102 minutes per goal statistic. Cutrone also has four goals and an assist in the competition.
The Europa league looks like the only gateway for Milan and Arsenal to be back at UEFA Champions League.
AC Milan potential starting XI (4-3-3):
GK: Donnarumma
Def: Rodriguez, Zapata, Bonucci, Calabria
Mid: Bonaventura, Biglia, Kessie
Att: Silva, Cutrone, Suso
Arsenal potential starting XI (4-2-3-1):
Gk: Ospina
Def: Kolasinac, Koscielny, Mustafi, Bellerin
Def. Mid: Xhaka, Wilshere

"Arsene Wenger Has Overstayed" - Arsenal Former Boss, Hill-Wood Says

EPL:"Arsene Wenger Has Overstayed" - Arsenal Former Boss, Hill-Wood Says
Former Arsenal chairman, Peter Hill-Wood, has said that manager Arsene Wenger has overstayed at the club.
Hill-Wood was the man who appointed Wenger in 1996.
The Frenchman is under pressure, following a series of disappointing results, including back-to-back 3-0 defeats to Manchester City.
Senior officials at the Emirates have reportedly drawn up a list of possible replacements for Wenger.
Hill-Wood, who stood down as club chairman in 2013, believes the time may have come for Wenger to end his 22-year association with the North London club.
“I clearly am not very happy about what is going on,” Hill-Wood told the Daily Star.
“I think that there probably ought to be a change of management.
“He has done fabulously well, it is just he has overstayed his welcome. I find it very sad because he was the great love of many and then it [overstaying his welcome] has destroyed it all.”
