1. A group of lawmakers drawn from various parties are heading to court over alleged proof of vote-buying and gross impunity by the Clerk of the National Assembly, Alhaji Sani Omolori.

Omolori, who supervised the June 11 election of Speaker and Deputy Speaker in the House of Representatives, is being accused of having condoned impunity among the lawmakers.

2. The Gan Allah Fulani Development Association of Nigeria (GAFDAN) has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to as a matter of urgency listen to the advice of former President Olusegun Obasanjo on how to move the nation forward and halt the numerous crises bedeviling the country.

Speaking with newsmen in Jos, the Plateau State capital, the National Chairman of the group, Alhaji Sale Bayari, said the present administration ought to listen to other eminent Nigerians too in solving the nation’s problems, but that from the signs he is getting, things are not in order.

4. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has promised automatic employment to corps members who performed exceptionally well as ad hoc staff during the 2019 General Elections.

The INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, made the promise on Monday in Abuja at the presentation of kits with laptops and phones by the European Union (EU) to outstanding corps members who participated in the 2019 Elections.

5. The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has accused Adeleke University, Ede, Osun State, of persecuting Muslim students in the institution.

Director of MURIC, Professor Ishaq Akintola, claimed the University forces Muslim students to attend church on Sundays and also making it mandatory for students living in the hostel to attend church every Wednesday and Saturday.

6. Gov. Darius Ishaku of Taraba, on Monday night, imposed curfew on Jalingo following fresh outbreak of crisis in some communities in Kona and ATC areas, near Jalingo.

According to the Governor, the curfew will run from 4:00 pm to 6:00 am daily till further notice.

7. UNICEF, on Monday, condemned the use of children as suicide bombers in Nigeria.

The UN body said several reports suggest that three children – two girls and a boy (ages unknown) – were used to detonate explosives that killed 30 people and injured 40 others at a community football viewing centre in Konduga, Borno on Monday.

8. Ibrahim Thiaw, Executive Secretary of UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), said on Monday that degradation and competition over access to land and water may cause war in Nigeria.

The UNCCD head said that growing population with growing demand on resources, coupled with Climate Change and reduction of available land resources, were root causes of most of the bloody conflicts.

9. The Independent Corrupt Practices And Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) says it is set to commence tracking of its first phase of constituency projects in 12 states.

Members of the Steering Committee for the initiative included Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NIQS), Budget Office of the Federation, and Office of the Accountant General of the Federation.

10. Nigeria was defeated 1-0 by France, in their final Group A fixture at the ongoing Women’s World Cup.

However, having held on for most of the game, the African champions conceded a penalty in the 75th minute.

1. Former Vice President and Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the 2019 election, Atiku Abubakar, has raised the alarm of plot to arrest him. This was contained in a statement by his spokesman, Paul Ibe, on Sunday. It said due to Atiku’s insistence that a server was used by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), his enemies attribute a false comment on “mass protest” to him to prepare the ground for his incarceration.

2. Meanwhile, the International Center For Investigative Reporting, ICIR, has released some fresh revelations about the controversy on whether the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, actually has a server or not. ICIR released an unconfirmed document, which claimed that the electoral body has budgetary provisions for Servers, e-collation and e-tracking of election results in 2019 INEC election budget.

3. At least 14 people have been confirmed dead and 38 others seriously injured following a suicide bomb attack at Mandareri-Sambisa ward of Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State. Residents of the area said two suicide bombers attacked the community few minutes past 8 in the night of Sunday.

4. An Appeal Court sitting in Owerri, the capital of Imo State, has granted victory to Governor Emeka Ihedioha in a suit filed against his emergence as the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the last election. His challenger, Sam Anyanwu had approached the court to nullify the victory of the governor. But in the judgement, Justice Raphael Chikwe Agbo ruled that the plaintiff did not convince the court on the prayers he sought. The judge, therefore, dismissed the suit for lack of proof.

5. The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has commended the European Union (EU) on its final report on the 2019 general elections. Reacting, the party in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr Kola Ologbondiyan, on Sunday in Abuja lauded the union for stating the facts on the elections. He said that the fresh revelation in the EU report further vindicated the position of PDP and millions of Nigerians on the elections. Ologbondiyan noted that the revelations of manipulations as detailed in the EU report further validates queries by majority of Nigerians on the elections.

6. The Police Command in Zamfara has confirmed the killing of 34 persons following an attack on Friday in Tungar Kafau and Gidan Wawa communities in Shinkafi Local Government Areas of the State. The Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Muhammad Shehu said this in a statement in Gusau on Sunday.

7. The Governor of Imo State, Chief Emeka Ihedioha has told his predecessor, Rochas Okorocha, to shut up and return all government property and money, he and members of his family allegedly siphoned. Okorocha was advised to toe the path of honour instead of indulging in reckless utterances and blackmail gimmicks against Ihedioha. This was contained in a statement on Sunday in Owerri, the State capital by Chief of Staff to Governor Ihedioha, Barr Chris Okewulonu.

8. President Muhammadu Buhari has directed state governments across the Northwest to pursue an urgent revamp of the national security apparatus in the subregion. A statement issued in Abuja on Sunday by Garba Shehu, his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, said the partnership followed the infiltration of bandits into areas that were hitherto secure. Shehu quoted President Buhari as expressing sorrow over the renewed attacks and extended his sympathies to the governments and people of Sokoto and Zamfara states.

9. The O’dua Peoples Congress, OPC, has warned kidnappers and herdsmen engaged in criminal activities in parts of the South-West to stop or incur their wrath. OPC gave the warning in a statement issued in Lagos at the weekend by its President  Aare Prince Osibote. He warned kidnappers and herdsmen to stop their criminal activities in the South-West or they will be forced to vacate.

10. Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State has called for the probe of a claim that a Gorilla allegedly swallowing N6.8million in Kano Zoological Gardens. Ganduje ordered the State Anti-Corruption Commission to probe the missing N6.8m. The order was given in a statement issued by Abba Anwar, Chief Press Secretary to Gov Ganduje. The statement added that Ganduje also asked the Commission to look into the immediate and remote cause of the allegation, directing them to unearth everything surrounding the incident.

1. One of the major contenders for the position of the Senate President in the incoming ninth National Assembly, Senator Ali Ndume, has assured that he would not step down for Senate Leader Ahmad Lawan (APC, Yobe) even if invited to Aso Rock.

On why he cannot withdraw from the race, Ndume said “stepping down at this period will be disastrous to my political career and it’s not necessary because there’s no one and convincing reason for me to stepdown.”

2. President Muhammadu Buhari has written the Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Tanko Muhammad, on the appointment of additional five Justices of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

The President wrote: ‘‘Pursuant to the provisions of Section 230(2) A&B of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), I am pleased to request that you initiate in earnest the process of appointing additional five Justices of the Supreme Court of Nigeria to make the full complement of 21 Justices as provided by the aforementioned provisions of the Constitution.”

3. Gov. Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State on Sunday attended the funeral of 25 persons killed by bandits in a fresh attack which occurred on Saturday in three communities in Rabah local government area of the state.

Report had it that the bandits had in large numbers, raided Kalhu, Tsage and Geeri villages near Gandi and killed 25 persons.

4. President Muhammadu Buhari, on Sunday expressed deep shock and sadness over the death of dozens of people in the banditry attacks which occurred on Saturday in three communities in Rabah Local Government Area (LGA) of Sokoto State.

The President, who was briefed about the incident and the arrests so far made by the Police, condoled with Governor Aminu Tambuwal and the people of the State over the tragic incident.

5. Governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have backed the candidacy of Senate Leader, Sen. Ahmad Lawan and Leader of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila for the ninth National Assembly leadership.

Governor of Kebbi, Alhaji Atiku Bagudu and Chairman of the Forum while briefing newsmen at the end of meeting, said the governors took the decision in compliance with the directive of the party’s national leadership.

6. Hon. Ned Nwoko, husband of the sensational Nollywood star, Regina Daniels, was on Sunday denied accreditation by the management of the National Assembly.

The Delta-born politician was the first and earliest caller at the National Assembly complex on Sunday for documentation, ahead of Tuesday’s inauguration ceremony, but was, however, turned down by the Clerk to the National Assembly, Chief Mohammed Sani-Omolori.

7. The Arewa Youths Consultative Forum, AYCF, on Sunday condemned claims that President Muhammadu Buhari is out to Islamise Nigeria.

AYCF insisted that such allegation was unfounded and unrealistic.

8. Apex Yoruba socio-political organization, Afenifere has issued strong warning to Fulani herdsmen dwelling in the Southwest region.

Afenifere said it welcomes the decision of Governors in the region to do something over the siege on Yorubaland by Fulani militia masquerading as herdsmen.

9. The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, HURIWA, has cautioned President Muhammadu Buhari against marginalising Christians in the Executive, Legislature and Judiciary arm of government during his second term.

It warned that the plots to undermine national unity by ensuring that only Muslims head all the branches of the central government started when Buhari’s administration instigated the “kangaroo trial resulting in the removal of Justice Walter Onnoghen, the only Christian to have held the position of Chief justice of Nigeria in 30 years over some phantomand substantially forged allegations.”

10. President Muhammadu Buhari has accepted Justice Walter Onnoghen’s voluntary retirement from service, as the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).

Buhari’s spokesman, Garba Shehu, who confirmed this via his verified Twitter handle, noted that Onnoghen’s retirement is effective from May 28, 2019.

1 The kidnapped twins of Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, High Chief Lekan Balogun have regained their freedom. The twins were said to have been released in Lagos. The Olubadan second-in-command, who confirmed the release Tuesday evening, however, said a ransom of N10 million was paid for the release of the twins, a boy and a girl.

2 The All Progressives Congress (APC) National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Tuesday, blamed past civilian administrations for the current nation’s economic woes.

The former Lagos state Governor who was represented by Governor Abiola Ajimobi at a symposium in Kano described ex-President Goodluck Jonathan-led administration as the worst culprit in the squandering of the nation’s resources.

3 Suspected herdsmen, Tuesday afternoon launched a fresh attack on Chembe settlement in Ukemberagya/Tswarev ward of Gaambe-Tiev, in Benue State, killing a village head, Chief Iyongovihi Ninge. Report says the attackers came with hordes of cattle, plundering yam seedlings of farmers. They reportedly opened fire on the deceased who was clearing his field in readiness for cultivation.

4 Senior lawyer, Festus Keyamo, SAN, was Tuesday appointed as the Director, Strategic Communications, (Official Spokesperson) for the President Muhammadu Buhari’s 2019 presidential campaign. This was contained in a statement signed and forwarded to DAILY POST by the Secretary, office of the Director-General, President Muhammadu Buhari Campaign Organization, Mohammed Dattijo. The same statement also confirmed the appointment of Amaechi as Buhari’s campaign DG.

5 The elective National Convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is to hold on Monday, May 15, 2018. In a letter to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) dated April 9, 2018 with the title, notice of conduct of congresses/national convention, the party said it intended to conduct special ward and local government congresses to elect delegates to the convention.

6 A former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chief Olu Falae, has said that the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration has not performed well. Falae said he was not expecting him to seek re-election in 2019. He said Buhari had failed in his primary responsibility of protecting lives and property.

7 Ahmad Salkida, a journalist and close ally of the Boko Haram sect has reversed his statement behind the abduction of Chibok girls from Borno State in 2014. Salkida, in new tweets, yesterday, said new information available to him, from two other cells within the sect, indicated that apart from the original 15 he knew were alive, 15 other girls were still alive.

8 Former First Lady of the United States of America, Barbara Bush, is dead. She died at the age of 92. This was announced in a statement by her husband and former President, George Bush Snr.

9 Senator Barnabas Gemade has backed the call by a former Minister of Defence, TY Danjuma for Nigerians to defend themselves. He added that there was an ongoing cleansing of his ethnic group, Tiv. Speaking on the floor of the National Assembly yesterday Gemade said, the country was becoming a state without control and that of ethnic cleansing.

10 The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, in 19 Northern states and Abuja and the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) have called on the Federal Government to reject the call by the British Prime Minister, Theresa May for Nigeria and other Commonwealth nations to allow same-sex marriage. They said Nigeria already had several social challenges to contend with, urging the Britain to respect Nigerian value system.

1. No fewer than 39 persons have been killed after suspected herdsmen attacked Tiv-dominated villages in Nasarawa State between Sunday and Monday.

Keana, Awe, Doma and Obi were the local government areas the herdsmen launched their latest attack.

2. Four herdsmen were on Monday afternoon killed by troops of the 72 battalion at Yagbo in Guma LGA of Benue State.

The troops repelled the attackers, who had invaded the village.

3. There was confusion in the Maitama area of Abuja, the Nigerian capital on Monday when riot broke out after protesting Shiite group clashed with some security agents.

The group was protesting the release of its leader, El-zakzaky, who has been in custody of the DSS. However, they encountered the DSS operatives who thwarted their rally amid heavy gunshots.

4. Health workers in Nigeria have declares indefinite strike, starting from today, April 17.

The protesting workers, under the aegis of Joint Health Sector Unions, JOHESU, announced that the industrial action became necessary following the refusal of the Nigerian government to honour their demand.

5. The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, yesterday called on Nigerian politicians to channel billions of naira spent on political campaign to educate the populace.

Abubakar, who also advocated the teaching of students in indigenous languages, said illiteracy had caused more harm than good to the nation.

6. Governor of Imo state, Rochas Okorocha, has said he will succeed President Muhammadu Buhari.

According to Okorocha, Buhari’s declaration for a second term was a good development and that “he will win again, just like he did in 2015”.

9. The Vice Chancellor of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Prof. Eyitope Ogunbodede, has said the institution may involve the police to verify a telephone conversation involving Prof. Richard Akindele, who allegedly asked a female student for sex in order to help her pass her exams.

The VC said the university might involve the police to get to the root of the matter if the investigation committee runs into a hitch.

10. No fewer than twenty-five National Youth Service Corps’ members serving in Delta State are to repeat their service year, while nineteen others absconded out of a total of 2, 838 corps’ members of the 2017 Batch ‘A’ stream 1.

1. Several persons, including women and children, have been killed, while several others were injured after suspected herdsmen attacked Kadarko, a border town with Benue State.

It was gathered that the gunmen, who were armed with dangerous weapons, invaded the Tiv-dominated village around 8pm on Tuesday and started killing anybody on sight.

2. The Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, has denied the report that his principal pledged only one-term.

Adesina, said the president had declared in 2011 not to seek re-election and not in 2015.

3. The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Yusuf Buratai, has ordered the establishment of standing court martial to try any officer who shows partisanship.

He warned GOCs, Brigade Commandeers and other officers interested in politics and romancing with politicians, “to resign before it is too late.”

4. President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday, approved the appointment of chief executive officers of agencies in the Federal Ministries.

The Ministries include: Health, Information and Culture, Education, Power, Works, and Housing, and Resident Electoral Commissioners in the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

5. President Muhammadu Buhari same Tuesday requested the Senate to confirm the appointments of 23 members of the National Population Commission (NPC).

Buhari also sought the Senate approval to appoint Mr Festus Okoye as the National Commissioner, Independent National Electoral Commission, and two non-judicial practitioners as members of Federal Judicial Service Commission.

5. Boss Mustapha, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), has revealed why people of the South East should support President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election bid.

The SGF said supporting Buhari’s second term bid was the “shortest way” to Igbo presidency, adding that with Buhari’s declaration, the APC needs to open its doors to others knocking.

6. Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom on Tuesday said he had no plans of dumping his party, the All Progressives Congress, APC, for an opposition party.

The governor described the rumour of him dumping APC as an act by his “political enemies” who feels he’s a stumbling block to their personal ambitions.

7. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), yesterday charged the Managing Director of Heritage Bank Plc, Ifiesimama Sekibo, and five others before the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja for an alleged fraud of N1bn.

Sekibo was charged along with Dimire Dike, Wumi Adeniyi, Kolapo Daisi, Funmilayo Taiwo and Akeem Durotoye, over allegations bordering on conspiracy, stealing, obtaining money under false pretences and forgery

8. Multiple music award-winner, Innocent Idibia, otherwise known as 2baba has announced his entrant into politics.

Idibia said he was interested in affecting lives positively and would soon pick up the challenge of a political position.

9. The Presidential Committee on North-East Initiative, PCNI, has debunked reports making the rounds that its chairman, Lieut.-Gen. Theophilus Danjuma (retd.) has resigned.

Head of Media and Communications of the Committee, Alkasim Abdulkadir, while faulting the report, pleaded with news organisations, journalists and social media users to always verify the source of stories before publishing.

10. Roma and Liverpool have qualified for the semi-finals of the Champions League, after impressive wins on Tuesday night.

While the Serie A side thrashed the LaLiga leaders 3-0 on their home soil, Liverpool beat Manchester City 2-1 at The Etihad to qualify for the last four.

1. President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday announced his intention to seek re-election in the 2019 presidential election.

Buhari told the National Executive Committee meeting of the ruling All Progressives Congress on Monday that he was ready to give the presidential race another shot.

2. Nigerians have welcomed with mixed feelings the Monday’s declaration by President Muhammadu Buhari to run for second term in 2019.

While some advised the president to step down for a younger person, considering the fact that age is no longer on his side, others believe the president has done well and should complete his second tenure.

3. President Muhammadu Buhari has declared that members of the John Odigie-Oyegun-led National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress, APC, were not eligible to seek reelection in the forthcoming congresses and national convention of the party.

He pointed out that based on the provision of Section 30 (1) (3), any officer currently serving and wants to seek re-election must resign their appointment 30 days before the election.

4. Nigerian stocks dropped to a three-month low, after President Muhammadu Buhari officially announced he would seek re-election in 2019.

Reports say the stock market, which opened on a losing streak after Lafarge Africa announced a surprise 2017 loss, worsened its decline, while the equity market fell near 40,000 points.

5. Unknown gunmen, suspected to be herdsmen have invaded Jimin Nyaku in Aloshi chiefdom; and Guidan Ayua in Kadarko area of Keana Local Government, Nasarawa State, killing about six Tiv villagers.

It was gathered that the attackers left a father and his son brutally murdered.

6. The Police in Benue State yesterday arraigned 28 suspects at a Makurdi Magistrate court for their alleged involvement in last Saturday’s gruesome murder of 10 herders at Yelwata, a border town between Benue and Nasarawa states on the Makurdi- Lafia road.

The victims were said to be traveling from Awe in Nasarawa State for a wedding but unfortunately had a break-down in the town when the hoodlums pounced on them and killed them in cold blood.

7. Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, has said the political tenacity and foresight of former Senate President, David Mark, helped stabilise Nigerian polity and saved the country’s democracy from collapse.

He explained that Mark’s ‘doctrine of necessity’ saved the country’s democracy from collapse and that the constitution review which he anchored were achievements and imprints that would remain indelible in Nigeria’s history.

8. The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami, SAN, said, yesterday, that the Federal Government was set to introduce a new legislation that would create tougher sanctions for terrorists and their financiers.

Malami, who made the disclosure at the opening of a regional workshop on prison intelligence in a counter-terrorism context, organised by International Institute for Justice and Rule of Law, said the new law would also expand the definition of terrorism.

8. Accord Party (AP) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo state have advised President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC) to prepare for defeat in 2019.

They stated Buhari’s announcement of his plan to seek re-election has brightened the chances of their parties.

9. Minister of Agriculture, Chief Audu Ogbeh, has warned that clashes between farmers and herdsmen might get worse in 2019, if nothing was done to intensify efforts to create cattle ranches or provide better security against rustling.

Ogbeh at the briefing said Nigeria needs to move the cattle to the good old grazing reserves and create environment for them.

10. The Nigerian Communications Commission ( NCC) said that MTN has paid N165 billion out of the N330 billion fine imposed on it due to its inability to disconnect improperly registered SIM cards.

1. Report says Chief Don Etiebet, an ex-Minister of Petroleum has emerged the leading candidate to replace chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun. This followed a decision by governors of the ruling Party at a closed door meeting during the weekend.

2. Troops Sunday gunned down a female suicide bomber who made an attempt to cross over to the University of Maiduguri. The foiled suicide bomb attack occurred at about 9.45 p.m.

3. The Labour Party, on Sunday joined the Action Democratic Party (ADP) in Lagos. This development was confirmed to journalists by the spokesperson for Lagos ADP, Prince Adelaja Adeoye, at the party’s state secretariat.

4. The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has said the federal government will soon release another list of looters. He said no intimidation would stop the government from releasing the list of those that looted the nation’s treasury.

5. About five hundred members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, from Ndume ibeku ward in Umuahia north on Sunday defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC. They decried the failure of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu to deliver dividends of democracy in the State.

6. President Muhammadu Buhari will depart Nigeria for London on Monday for an official visit. The President will hold discussions on Nigeria – British relations with Prime Minister Mrs Theresa May as well as other meetings.

7. The embattled former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.), has filed a fresh fundamental human rights enforcement suit before the Federal High Court in Abuja against the Department of State Services. The former NSA is demanding for his unconditional release.

8. One person was during the weekend killed after an Improvised Explosive Devise reportedly went off at a popular pharmaceutical company in the Moore area of Ile Ife, Osun State. Pharmaceutical products worth millions of Naira were also reportedly consumed.

9. Nigeria’s Communication Minister, Adebayo Shittu, and a presidential aspirant, Omoyele Sowore, an online Publisher, on Saturday engaged each other in what could be tagged epic war of words on a public affairs radio programme in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital. During an interview, the duo engaged each other in verbal attacks, using unprintable words.

10. Former governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu, yesterday defiled warning by the Ekiti State Government not to visit the state. Kalu who stormed the state with his Peace Advocacy team described the Governor of the State, Oyedele Fayose, as his boy.
