Jonathan’s ex-aide, Omokri under fire for saying Buhari for Muslims, Osinbajo for Christians

Nigerians have come hard on Reno Omokri, a former News Media aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan for allegedly working tirelessly to divide Nigeria along religious lines.

Youths who attacked Omokri on Twitter said he was trying to ignite a civil war in Nigeria while living in California with his family.

Omokri had written on his official Twitter page that President Muhammadu Buhari is for the Muslims while Vice President Yemi Osinbajo was for Christians.

The comment sparked an outrage as he was accused of trying to turn the country’s dominant religions against each other.

Omokri had also claimed that President Buhari made efforts for the release of Zainab Aliyu, who was wrongly accused to have transported Tramadol to Saudi Arabia, because she was a Muslim while Leah Sharibu, a Christian who was abducted by Boko Haram terrorists, was still in captivity.

Reacting to his claims, James Sunday Akinloye said Omokri was suffering from a self-induced post election traumatic stress disorder and that he needs to see a doctor.

He tweeted, “I must tell you that those who listen and follow Omokri are merely doing so to be entertained. We know Mr. Omokri don’t mean well for Nigeria. He only wants to ruffle things up so that the unsuspecting can ignite a violence in our country.

“He has forgotten so quickly that over 200 school girls were abducted during the Jonathan government and it took Buhari/Osinbajo to reunite most of them with their families.

He added that Mr. Omokri’s attempt to draw comparison between legitimate government and a terrorist sect was baseless to say the least. He urged Nigerians to steer clear of Omokri and his ilk.

Also reacting on Twitter, Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa, who is the Senior Special Adviser to the President on Foreign Relations and Diaspora, said it’s not true that the Federal Government wasn’t working to have Leah Sharibu released.

“Leah’s case is different. She is held captive by terrorists. The Buhari administration is not leaving any stone unturned to get her back. We are optimistic she will return,” she said.

Similarly, another Twitter user, Bernard Okri, pointed out that both the President and Vice President do not represent the interest of any religious groups as they were both elected by Muslims and Christians.

“It’s petty that Mr. Omokri is trying to draw a religious divide in Nigeria just because he wants the country to burn. Nigerians should be weary of him and those who reside in the United States but are strategising to make Nigeria burn,” he said.

He also shamed Omokri for trying to draw Kiki Osinbajo, the daughter of the Vice President into the matter. “Mr. Omokri claims that he wants Ms. Sharibu rescued are lies. He takes pictures and brandishes the good life he is living but will never return to Nigeria to help free Leah Sharibu.”

Leah Sharibu: Buhari govt under attack for ensuring release of Muslim girls, allowing Christian girl to suffer

 

President Muhammadu Buhari and the security forces have been urged to borrow a leaf from Britain on how it coordinated the search eleven years running of the then 4-year-old Madeleine Mccann and adopt same method in search of Christian teenager, Miss. Leah Sharibu.

McCann, born 12 May, 2003 disappeared on the evening of 3 May, 2007 from her bed in a holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, a resort in the Algarve region of Portugal. Her whereabouts, however, remain unknown till date.

This call was made by the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, HURIWA in observation of the 16th birthday anniversary of the Yobe State born Christian teenager.

Leah was abducted by Boko Haram terrorists alongside her Moslem colleagues, who were all released on the intervention of the Federal Government.

HURIWA challenged the Nigerian government to publish the records of how much it has spent so far in the rescue efforts.

The association said it was shameful that whereas Nigeria pretends to be practicing constitutional democracy with transparency and accountability as the key principles, it has failed to render public account of the financial commitments it has made in the rescue of the hundreds of girls abducted by the armed Islamists of Boko Haram terrorists.

Wondering why Nigerian government do not copy the positive examples of Great Britain which periodically publishes public expenses on such cases including the subsisting case of the then little Madeleine McCann, who disappeared in Portugal about eleven years ago, HURIWA regretted that the Nigerian government does not even seem to be making any concrete effort to free Leah Sharibu and the remaining Chibok girls.

HURIWA recalled that in Great Britain, detectives have been granted more money to continue the search for Madeleine McCann, nearing 11 years since her disappearance while on holiday with her family in Portugal.

The statement recalled that so far more than £11.75m has been spent on the UK’s investigation, named Operation Grange.

HURIWA recalled that British Government’s funding has been agreed every six months, with £154,000 being granted from October last year until the end of March 2019 just as it is thought the latest round of funding will be as much as £150,000.

The group also accused the religious leaders of the Christian Association of Nigeria of doing next to nothing to ensure that the Nigerian Government fulfills its obligations to guarantee security of life of the then 14-year-old Christian girl whose reason for continuous detention by the terrorists is that she is a Christian.

HURIWA’s statement signed by Emmanuel Onwubiko, added, “As citizens with equal rights and responsibilities, we demand that President Muhammadu Buhari should direct the security forces to publish the financial details of what government has committed in the efforts to rescue the Chibok and Dapchi school girls kidnapped by the Boko Haram terrorists. Great Britain does same whenever citizens are missing.”

The national chairman, National Action Council (NAC), Dr. Olapade Agoro on Saturday gave President Muhammadu Buhari a 72-hour ultimatum to ensure the release of Leah Sharibu from the Boko Haram’s captivity.

Agoro while speaking in a telephone interview with journalists in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital, however threatened to drag President Buhari before the International Criminal Court (ICC) if the President fails to ensure the release of the only Christian student among the 110 Dapchi female students kidnapped by Boko Haram terrorists.

The NAC Presidential aspirant lamented that, “it was unfortunate that Leah is being subjected to further physical and psychological trauma because she insisted on holding on to her religious faith, which is Christianity.”

Agoro also expressed his readiness to surrender himself to the Buhari led Federal Government to be swapped with the innocent Dapchi girl, saying that, “it has now become a crime to be a Christian in Nigeria.”

He said, “I am ready to walk freely to the President Buhari’ negotiators to take me to the Boko Haram for them to take me to replace the innocent girl. I am ready to sacrifice my life to get Leah released unconditionally.”

“President Buhari should engage his negotiating machinery to get Leah released unconditionally from Boko Haram latest by Wednesday. The innocent girl must not be raped or subjected to any other form of inhuman treatment because of her faith.

“I am giving the Federal Government the ultimatum to get her released latest by Wednesday. If she is not released, by Friday, I will be dragging President Buhari before the ICC”.

Agoro noted that, “since it is obvious that the Federal Government negotiated to get the other Dapchi students released, Buhari should come out and tell Nigerians, the terms and conditions of the negotiation.”

Agoro insisted that Nigerians deserve to know, if it was part of the negotiation that only those who are Muslims or ready to embrace Islam would be released by the Boko Haram, adding that Buhari’s failure to give convincing explanation will rekindle the suspicion of attempts to Islamize Nigeria.

He said, “The innocent girl is being made to suffer because of her faith. That should be a concern to all Muslims, Christians and parents in Nigeria. Nobody should be made to suffer, human life should be protected in Nigeria irrespective of religion.”
