AIT, RayPower shutdown: NGE blows hot, demands immediate revocation of suspension order

AIT, RayPower shutdown: NGE blows hot, demands immediate revocation of suspension order
 www.naijavoiceofthemasses.blogspot.com

The Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) has demanded an immediate revocation of the suspension order of the licenses of DAAR Communication Plc, owners of AIT, RayPower and Faaji FM.

According to the Guild, the suspension order runs contrary to the ideals of free speech and the fine tenets of press freedom.

In a statement signed by its President, Mrs. Funke Egbemode, and General Secretary, Mrs. Mary Atolagbe, the Guild described the action of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) as a case of executive highhandedness.

The guild added that the suspension of the broadcast licenses of DAAR communication paints Nigeria in the darkest tar of dictatorship.

The statement reads: “The Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) hereby condemns in very strong terms the indefinite suspension of the licenses of the African Independent Television, AIT, Ray Power by the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC).

“The Guild demands in clear terms the revocation of the suspension order as it runs contrary to the ideals of free speech and the fine tenets of press freedom. This is a case of Executive highhandedness and it paints our dear country in the darkest tar of dictatorship.
“The Fourth Estate of the Realm remains the watchdog of society and any attempt to gag it in any guise is an affront on democracy and the people. The NBC must and should rescind this ignoble and despicable decision.

“The Guild strongly believes the NBC action is a draconian form of regulation, being out of tune with democratic principles. The Guild is concerned about the violation of the constitutional rights of DAAR Communications and the absence of media freedom, independence and the stifling of operations of media outfits which are performing their roles as the watchdog of the Nigerian society.

“The NGE condemns in strong terms the barbaric crackdown on the broadcast outfit and demands the immediate cessation of this atrocious repression and excessive show of power by the NBC, whose duty is to regulate and not kill the media.

“Muzzling the media and throwing thousands of Nigerians into the already saturated labor market should not be the trophy for good corporate governance of a regulator; it is something to be ashamed of and NBC should be ashamed at its action in a fledgling democracy in the 21st Century.

“The Guild is strongly of the opinion that the NBC, in exercising its regulatory powers, should concentrate on implementing policies that will position Nigeria’s broadcasting to compete in the global spheres, rather than engage in witch-hunting and unnecessary show of excessive force. The Guild hereby expresses its solidarity with the AIT/Raypower family, urging the staff and management to remain calm as the Guild liaises with and other media professionals as well as well meaning Nigerians to get justice.

“The NGE appeals to President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, to use his good offices to call NBC to order.

“It is to be recalled that NBC had, before the 2019 general election, shut down Joy FM in Jos for violations of the broadcasting code. Last year, the NBC shut down Ekiti Radio/TV station. Shutting down stations and withdrawing licences are too extreme in the circumstance. There must be humane and saner ways to resolve disputes bordering on violation of the Broadcasting Code.”

NASS questions decrease in FIRS 20I9 proposed non-oil budget
The National Assembly Joint Committee has raised concern over Federal Inland Revenue Service’s (FIRS) 2019 proposed budget of N146.54 for non-oil revenue tax collection.

According to the News Agency Nigeria (NAN), Sen. John Enoh, the Co-chairman of the committee, and other members of the committee raised the concern at FIRS’s budget defence in Abuja on Monday.

The committee wanted to know why the 2018 approved estimate was N153.85 while 2019 projected cost stood at N146.54 amounting to 4.75 per cent decrease.

On personnel cost, the committee asked why the service was proposing 14.6 per cent increase in number of staff from 7, 854 in 2018 to 9000 staff in 2019.

The committee also demanded an explanation to the “proposed N160 million meant to sew drivers’ uniforms, N825 million for refreshment and security vote of N250 million among others.

The Executive Chairman of FIRS, Mr Tunde Fowler while presenting the budget proposal, noted that the proposed increase in staff strength was due to recruitment of staff schedule for 2019.

Fowler equally added that N160 million was earmarked to sew uniforms for the 850 drivers of the service as part of effort to make them fit properly into the structure.

However, he stated that the amount marked out for security was meant to attend to some security issues, particularly those not receipted for.

He said “The achievement of 2019 budget will be driven by increased oil and non-oil revenue tax collection”.

“The service in realisation of this responsibility and challenges of doing manual collection will continue to implement automated tax collection for the critical sectors of the economy notably telecommunications, airlines and financial institutions”.

“The deployment of these platforms is at no cost to the service and the consultants will only be rewarded on increased revenue generation”.

“There will be increased enforcement activities nationwide to bring more taxpayers into the tax net and increase compliance level”.

''You are a senior advocate in the demonic world'' Nigerian man calls out another man who dated his friend for 18 years and dumped her to marry another lady
 www.naijavoiceofthemasses.blogspot.com

A Nigerian man by the name Shadrack Okpomhe, has taken to his Facebook page to call out another man named Olorogun Jude Akporu.

In his post, Shadrack claimed Akporu dated his female friend for 18 years since their secondary school days and has dumped her to marry another lady.

An angry Shadrack wrote

He Dated my friend for 18yrs and dumped her to marry another lady.

O KARmA, I call on you to visit this man Asap.

My religion doesn't permit us or me sometimes to call anyone a demon, but this particular man here makes me equate him not only to a demon, but a senior advocate in the demonic world, sometimes I wonder why ladies commit suicide just because of failed relationships or marriage in as much I don't encourage it, but there are some cases they got no option than to take their own life, but this won't be the case because karma isn't a bitch anymore but an asshole in the hood.

The pictures of the man here is named Olorogun Jude Akporu he has been dating a friend of mine for the past 18yrs, from secondary school down to higher institution till on Friday night 10-5-2019, my friend does alot of things for him to make him happy at all cost, before then he blocked my friend on facebook and chats her up only on WhatsApp just because of his new found love, each time. My Friend talks about it, he gives her hope that she shouldn't worry that he in charge , to the extent he extorted my friend over a million naira , few weeks ago, the banns of marriage was announced in the church behold it was Jude whose name was mentioned, and when we heard about it, I called my friends attention who couldn't even believe her eyes anymore, only for this man to come around and tell my friend that, his parents are the ones forcing the lady on him that it was never his intention to marry that lady at same time she is the one he loves, this went on and on with much plea and crocodile ? tears ? .

He even encouraged my friend to get pregnant for him so that he can use that as a tool to cancel the already proposed marriage.

Just yesterday this wolf in a sheep clothing wedded Another lady.

People like you make ladies go extra mile to Commit suicide or life unbearable for who causes them pain, and If my friend should go an extra mile to make this happen, I won't blame her for anything because you choose to be heartless and inhuman, what you won't want another person to do to you as a Person because it hurts and might lead to what one never planned for.
www.naijavoiceofthemasses.blogspot.com
Seriously Mr Olorogun Jude Snooty, pray to God to forgive you your sins

Now u are happily married and according to your facebook status you talk about been a honest person, what does it take to be honest when you ain't honest to your own self?
What has happened to your conscience?

Did you sell it or it's been stolen from you or you lost it?

Karma isn't a bitch anymore, but a staff of the Neibourhood and I hope this pain you just caused tonight won't linger in your home forever.

All wish you all the pain and agony you have caused another sister whose in tears and pain right now .

I just pray God help your wicked and diabolic soul

Okorocha undermines protest against establishment of new university in Imo

BREAKING NEWS
Okorocha undermines protest against establishment of new university in Imo
Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has described the ongoing protest by Ohaji/Egbema youth over the establishment of University of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences at the main campus of Imo state polytechnic Umuagwo as mischievous.
He said the protest was being sponsored by some unpatriotic leaders in Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area and some hostel owners in the area.

In a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Sam Onwuemeodo, in Owerri on Tuesday, Okorocha warned those behind the protest to desist from it and allow lofty projects of the government to thrive.
He said: “The attention of my government has been drawn to the misleading and inciting protest by some youths of Ohaji/Egbema LGA over the relocation of the state polytechnic.
“It is very unfortunate that some people have decided to play politics with everything in Imo, including developmental projects in the state.
“It is very bad that the youths have allowed themselves to be used for protest against the development of the state, otherwise why will any sensible youth protest against sitting of a university in their area?’’
NAN reports that the governor had announced the establishment of University of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences which he named Aboh/Ngor Umuagwo University.

He announced that the structure of Imo Polytechnic Umuagwo would house the new university, while the Polytechnic would be relocated to Ehime/Mbano Local Government Area (LGA).
The decision, however, led to a serious protest by leaders and youths of Ohaji/Egbema, the host community of Imo State Polytechnic.

The National Universities Commission (NUC) issued the certificate of registration for the take-off of the University of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences in Imo, as the 49th state-owned university in Nigeria on April 18.

Buratai, under scrutiny by the Senate for alleged illegal appointment of new NYSC DG

BREAKING NEWS
Buratai, under scrutiny by the Senate for alleged illegal appointment of new NYSC DG

The Senate, Wednesday directed its committee on Youth and sports to investigate the alleged illegal appointment of a new Director-General for the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC.

It was also said that the Chief of Army Staff, COAS, Lt.Gen. Tukur Buratai unilaterally made the alleged unconstitutional but controversial appointment.

This development was sequel to an adopted order 42 and 52 Senate rule moved by Senator Dino Melaye representing Kogi West.

Melaye in presenting his motion said it was unconstitutional for Buratai to have made the said appointment as it was in breach of the provision of the 1999 constitution as amended.

In his words, “I’m bringing to the notice of the Senate an infringement in the appointment of a new Director-General of NYSC.

“It was said that the Chief of Army Staff made a new appointment of NYSC Director-General in replacement of the former DG.

“This is unconstitutional as it is only the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria that has the right as provided by the constitution to do so.

“The NYSC act section 5 reads, “There shall be a Director-General for the National Youth Service Corps to be appointed by the President.

“But Buratai through a signal removed and appointed a new NYSC DG.

“We should not allow this, Mr. President. Otherwise, We should not be surprised to wake up one morning to hear that DG, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has been removed and appointed a new Senate President”.

However, Senator Bassey Akpan seconded the motion while it was put to a voice vote by Senate President, Bukola Saraki that resulted in the unanimous resolution to refer the matter to its committee to investigate and report back next week Wednesday for further legislative action.

Herdsmen Killings: "This Is A Killer Government" - Fayose Slams Buhari

BREAKING NEWS
Herdsmen Killings: "This Is A Killer Government" - Fayose Slams Buhari
Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State has described President Muhammadu Buhari as a captured president who has been reduced to offering condolences to Nigerians slaughtered by herdsmen.
He said the President has failure in firm action to stop the atrocities.
Fayose wondered why a retired Army General and a former military Head of State who contested and won election on the premises of providing security to the citizens have suddenly become lame duck.
The Governor said in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Idowu Adelusi.
He said, “This is a killer government”, the governor said, adding that it is shameful that Nigerians are dying daily with Buhari clueless and incompetent to handle the crisis.
“It is beyond dispute that the Buhari administration has lost the battle against insurgency and the Fulani herdsmen. Buhari is helpless as he is reduced to offering condolences on a daily basis.
“Nigerians are dying on a daily basis. Innocent souls are being wasted by herdsmen and the Buhari administration has lost all moral right to continue in office. Why is he still sitting in office? Doing what, if I may ask”, he added.
He wondered that this was a government that lambasted the PDP administration of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan for cluelessness.
He said, “ the same Jonathan administration era is now looking like the golden age of security of lives and properties in Nigeria”
“At no period since 1999 has life been this cheap. Life has become nasty, brutish, and short under the Buhari administration”, he said. Gov. Fayose also expressed misgivings about recent spate of controversial judgments by courts which he said gave the impression of collusion between unscrupulous judges and the Buhari administration to truncate democracy and lead the country into anarchy.
“The situation is getting so bad that we do not know whether the Constitution of the country has been unofficially suspended.
“Nigerians have been unlucky with Buhari as president. He is too old, too analogue, too incompetent, too clueless and is not ready to admit and yield for a competent leader. This country has never had it this bad. Gradually, Buhari is becoming a maximum ruler,” he added.

Herdsmen Killings: House Of Rep. Aspirant Tells Buhari To Resign
Following the incessant killings of Nigerians by suspected killer herdsmen with no solution at hand, a House of Representatives hopeful for Ughelli and Udu Federal Constituency, Comrade Akpokona Omafuaire, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to resign, stressing that,”He is incompetent.”
In a statement, Omafuaire said With the daily killings, it is obvious the President has failed in his primary duty.
Omafuaire noted that President Buhari swore to the Nigerian constitution which prescribed one of the key functions of the President as securing lives and property.
Omafuaire stated that, “Since his emergency, Buhari has shown enough course for every reasonable Nigerian to believe that his intent was to foster an ethnic agenda of whipping out other ethnic groups.
“The questionable manner he withdrew monies without recourse to the National Assembly and the use of state security apparatus to hound opposition is a great threat to our democracy.
“The President is enmeshed in his second term agenda bid and does not care what happens to the people he is leading, so it is time for him to resign and go home. ”

Prove That We Planned To Maime You, Oil Marketers Dare Okonjo-Iweala

BREAKING NEWS
Prove That We Planned To Maime You, Oil Marketers Dare Okonjo-Iweala
Oil marketers under the aegis of Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers’ Association, DAPPMA, on Tuesday dared Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala to prove her allegation.
The marketers, who spoke in separate interview with Vanguard, were reacting to the allegation made by the former Minister of Finance that some oil marketers planned to confine her to wheelchair for fighting corruption under the Goodluck Jonathan administration.
Okonjo-Iweala made the claim in her new book entitled, ‘Fighting Corruption is Dangerous.’
The Executive Secretary of DAPPMA, Femi Adewale, said “she (Okonjo-Iweala) is free to make any allegation deemed fit but she can help by naming the marketers.”
Also in his reaction to the claim, the National President of Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, IPMAN, Chinedu Okoronkwo, said that the association was not mentioned in the statement.
He said, “Why will I react to such issue? We are not importing. For IPMAN, our major operation is buying from tank farms and NNPC depots.
“So you can know that she is not referring to us. She is referring to those who are coming to claim subsidy, not us.’’
On his part, Femi Olawore, Executive Secretary, Major Marketers Association of Nigeria, MOMAN, said: “How do I know the truth?
“I can only comment on our working relationship. I enjoyed working with her because she was very accessible.
“She worked against several forces in order to reduce the subsidy claims. We had reasons to quarrel but overall, she is a good Nigerian.”

Ngozi Ezekwesili Slams Buhari For Oppressing Nigerians

BREAKING NEWS
Ngozi Ezekwesili Slams Buhari For Oppressing Nigerians

A former minister of education, Dr Oby Ezekwesili has again taken a swipe on President Muhammadu Buhari and the Nigeria Police over invasion and harassment of BringBackOurGirls advocacy group during a protest.
Ezekwesili on Tuesday accused the Police of laying siege on BBOG protesters at the Unit Fountain, Abuja.
In a video on her Twitter page, the BBOG convener urged policemen to go back to crime scenes and protect the lives of Nigerians dying everyday rather than oppress citizens.
She further criticised President Buhari for keeping mute while the police oppressed Nigerians.
She said “The last 11 DAYS have seen our movement BBOG under the fiercest DAILY attacks yet from Nigeria Police which turned the Public Space of our Daily Advocacy – Unity Fountain into a Police Garrison sprawling with armed to the teeth Police men & women
“”The Police unconstitutionally launched a DAILY WAR AGAINST @BBOG_Nigeria, our peaceful Citizens’ movement. Meanwhile, the President Buhari watches on as Citizens’ RIGHTS ARE VIOLATED.
“How is it that the current government which when in opposition cried out for freedom of association, expression & assembly will now be the same government that brings out this number of Policemen with equipment needed in war zones to oppress citizens of the land? You will not succeed.
“We will not co-operate with anti democratic elements to mess up the hard earned democracy we have today. Go back to where you are needed, you are needed at CRIME SCENES; did we report any crime to you? Just look at the human waste, meanwhile people are dying because they are not protected.
“Indeed, we that have endured multiple attacks over the 4 Years of advocacy for our #ChibokGirls. We are not turning back. Turn if you want, but as for our movement BBOG, our advocacy continues at the Unity Fountain.”

Okonjo-Iweala Reveals How She Was Almost Maimed For Fighting Corruption

BREAKING NEWS
Okonjo-Iweala Reveals How She Was Almost  Maimed For Fighting Corruption
Erstwhile Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has revealed how oil importers and marketers wanted to confine her to a wheelchair.
She also alleged that the marketers wanted to force her out of office during the time she served under ex-President Goodluck Jonathan.
Okonjo-Iweala said that a friend to one of her brothers attended a meeting where the discussion held.
She said the friend advised her brother that security should be beefed up around her.
The former Minister said this in her new book entitled, ‘Fighting Corruption is Dangerous: The Story Behind the Headlines.’
She said, “My mother’s ordeal was not the end of frightening events that occurred in late 2012 and early 2013.
“A few months after my mother’s escape, I had just wrapped up a meeting late one afternoon when my cellphone rang. It was again my brother, Onyeama.
“My first thought was that something else had gone wrong in the family. He frantically asked me, ‘where are you, where are you?’
“I was surprised and I said I was in my office. He said I needed to immediately seek additional security and I must vary my route for travel.
“I asked what was wrong and my brother told me a very strange story. One of my brother’s old friend had just called him to say he had just left a secret meeting where the subject was to inflict maximum physical damage on me, just short of killing me.
“The agreement reached in this meeting was to attack me in a way that I would end up paralysed and bound to a wheelchair and forced to leave the Finance ministry.
“The meeting was held by a group of oil importers and marketers to whom the Federal Government ‘owed money’. It was held in the house of the chair and owner of one of the oil marketing companies.
‘’They were angry I was withholding the subsidy payments that they thought were owed them for their refined petroleum imports.
“My brother’s friend participated in this meeting but felt what was being planned was unjust and cruel and I did not deserve it.”
